Betsy did her best to hide her surprise at his mention of his wife. And while Sean tried to talk about her as calmly as he could, the loss still affected him greatly, perhaps more then he was willing to admit. She could sense it very clearly.
Looking at him, she replied, “I am so sorry, Sean. I just assumed.... I mean....” Betsy sighed, not exactly knowing what to say. “That must have been absolutely horrible. I can't imagine ever getting over something like that.”
”And what about ye, ye're smart, talented, beautiful, why hasn't some lucky man found ye?" he asked, apparently wanting to change the subject. Not that she blamed him.
Betsy took a few minutes to answer but finally said softly, “I don't want to be found. The life we lead is so crazy that I can't imagine dragging someone into it. Besides, I can sense just how much the loss of your wife affects you. I've lost my parents and a few teammates along the way. I can't imagine feeling the loss of someone I love as much as you love your wife.” Looking back up at him, she continued, “It's selfish, I know.”

Sean gazed deep into Elisabeth's brown eyes, and gently placed his hands on her face.
"Ye have nothing, absolutely nothing to apologize for. Ye may be a telepath, but ye respected me mind, as me own. And yes, it hurt, and it took me a while to move on, but ye cannae mourn forever. Ye've heard the saying 'it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all'? It's true, and I dinnae regret me marriage, or falling for Maeve, it made me who I am."
He lightly brushed his hands against her face.
"Ye have so much ta offer someone, and I dinnae think anyone would mind being dragged along into the crazyness of yuir life."

Sean truly believed his words but Betsy just couldn't allow herself to let someone that close. Brian showed how it was possible but even he had, for the most part, given up a lot of his responsibilities as Captain Britain to be with Meggan. Betsy just couldn't make that sacrifice, not at this stage in her life and with so much at stake with the students.
His hands on her face were surprisingly warm and as he stroked her cheeks, she softly replied, “Brian has tried to tell me the same thing. All I know is, I haven't found anyone I'm willing to stake that much of my life on. And being an X-Man is something I'm not willing to give up. Not yet, anyway. Besides, if you thought being a cap for New York was crazy, just give us a few months. You'll probably wish you had your old job back.”

Sean looked deep into Elisabeth's eyes, understanding what she was saying, and where she was coming from.
"Well, it's just my opinion, but any guy who would want ye to stop being an X-man or teaching yuir students, would nae be worth it. I'm looking forward to the crazyness of this new life, it will be a change, and it beats writing parking tickets. Or listening to drunks who have pickled their brains, claiming that aliens have taken over everywhere."
He chuckled, remembering some of the loony tunes he'd had to deal with. He pulled his face close to hers and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
"The stars are not the only beauty ta be found this night."

Betsy closed her eyes as his lips lightly brushed her forehead. It was such a simple gesture but it made her smile. While he talked and thought of some of the things that people do to make a cops life interesting, she thought about things like other dimensions where a six armed witch could trade the bodies of a British model turned X-man and an Asian assassin. Not only trade their bodies but mix their memories and emotions as well. It was probably one of the worst things Betsy ever went through. Even worse then losing her sight.
No one, not even Sean, could prepare for what they faced and even the simulations in the Danger Room couldn't come close. Opening her eyes, she looked up into his green ones and simply said, “Thank you, Sean.”

Sean saw Elisabeth smile after he kissed her. She looked up at him
"Thank you, Sean."
"Thank ye, for a truly magnificent evening." His eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief she probably recognized by now.
"Yuir face felt cold, are ye warm enough? Me lap is still open."

The mischievous grin returning to his face, Sean said, "Yuir face felt cold, are ye warm enough? Me lap is still open."
Laughing and shaking her head, Betsy threw up her arms in mock exasperation and said, “Men! What am I going to do with you?”
Before he could reply, Betsy took the blanket off and jumped off the table. Scooping up a hand full of snow, she quickly made a snowball then turned around quickly and threw it right at him.

Sean gaped as the snowball hit him directly in the face. He shook the snow off him, like a dog drying itself.
"Oh, is tha' how ye want to be? Two can play at that game." Knowing they were alone, he dived at the ground scooping up a large amount of snow. He flew over Elisabeth's head, and dumped it, laughing out loud at the expression on her face.

Betsy bit back a scream as the freezing cold snow landed all over her head, some of it making it's way down her coat and into her clothes. Leaving the snow in her hair, she called at him, “I'd like to see you beat me at this without your powers!” Then she ran to the other side of a large tree and gathered up three more snowballs, throwing them in turn at him. She didn't even wait to see if any made contact with their target.

Sean chuclkled as he watched the snow fall on Elisabeth's head. Direct hit, and she didn't even shriek. He watched as she ran behind a tree and issued a further challenge. He flew over to another tree and ducked behind it, grabbing snow off the branches as he lowered himself to the ground.
With both hands full of snow, he used his interpol and police training to sneak as quietly as he could, barely stepping on the ground. He caught a quick glimpse of her and leaped out, snowy arms outstretched.
"Banzai!!!"

Sean came back to the ground with a bunch of snow gathered in his arms. She heard him approach even though he tried to be silent. It was almost impossible to sneak up on a ninja. Instinct took over when she sensed Sean's “attack”. As he yelled and came within reach, she crouched down and attempted to grab his waist and flip him over, keeping the snow off of her.

Sean grinned even as Elisabeth grabbed his waist mid air. He relied on his interpol training. As she attempted to flip him, he grabbed her wrists, hoping to bring her with him.
"If I go down, lass, I'm takin ye with me!"

Her brilliant plan hit a snag when he dropped his arm full of snow and grabbed her wrists instead. Already into the motion, she couldn't stop the momentum and the two of them went tumbling into the snow. They landed several feet away, Sean pinning her into the fresh, untouched snow. With an exaggerated groan, trying not to laugh, Betsy said, “Just how much did you eat at the restaurant?”

Sean propped himself on his hands, trying to take some of his weight off of Elisabeth. He laughed at the interesting position they'd landed in. Inadvertantly, but definately amusing.
"Are ye all right, Elisabeth?" He chuckled.
"Just how much did you eat at the restuarant?"
"I was pretty hungry back there. Did I forget to mention I loved playing american football as a young lad?" He said with a grin.

Giving in to her laughter, Betsy replied, “I'm fine, Sean. I've taken worse tumbles then that and didn't have to snow to cushion my fall.”
Noticing he hadn't made any move to get off her, Betsy grinned. Shaking her head and feigning defeat, she said, “American football out maneuvers a trained ninja. I should just hang up my uniform now.”
