Jean gave Betsy a small smile as she prepared to exit, glad she was able to slip out and deal with the whole situation downstairs. She might not believe Nathan was who he said he was and knowing Betsy she’d have to test him in her own way, but Jean was confident Nathan would be able to prove his lineage.
< Don't beat yourself up about it, honey, > he [Scott] told her through their link. < She spent more time around Betsy and she didn't sense it either. It might have been part of her mutation. > He referred to Sharon. Jean couldn’t help but feel a little upset that they hadn’t been able to detect Sharon’s mutation, but what Scott said made sense. At least they knew about it now and would be able to help her. She gave him a slight smile in response, appreciating the reassurance.
< About time, > He thought wryly, < I'm just surprised she said yes. > Jean nodded before adding jokingly, < Me, too. But we all knew he’d wear her down sooner or later. > Betsy cared a lot for Sean. Jean had a feeling it was more than even Betsy realized at times. Who knows, maybe this Insta-Mother thing with Sharon would influence her to feel like settling down sooner. Or maybe not.
After the girls were introduced, they greeted Anna politely in their hivemind talk, “How do you do. We believe, you will have plenty things to go over, so we will excuse ourselves.” Then their voices sounded in their parents’ minds, <“We would like permission to go and retrieve Esme. If you would like we can even take a chaperone.”>
< That's fine girls. We trust you. Take one of the school vans. The keys are in my desk. > Jean opened the link so she could ‘hear’ what Scott was saying. The idea about including a chaperone sounded like a good one, seeing as Esme could be a handful at times. Jean thought about mentioning to the girls to ask Ororo to accompany them, seeing as she was well aware of Esme’s behavior and could handle her with calm dignity. < And once you do bring her back, she's confined to her room until Jean and I have come to speak with her. Thank you. > Scott’s sigh before redirecting his attention to the room.
< It might be a good idea to as Ms. Munroe to accompany you, girls. But if she has a class, you can go by yourselves. > Jean added. She trusted the girls to be able to handle their sister, but having a chaperone along just in case wasn’t a bad idea. And if not, they knew how to get in touch with the staff and their parents in an instant. < Do not worry we will make sure she stays put. > Then the girls got the keys and left.
Betsy dismissed herself as well, leaving to take care of the situation in the War Room. Jean smiled and nodded as she left, hoping everything was going as well as it could down there. Was Sean ever going to get it. Jean’s eyes flicked over to the Irishman, giving him a hint of a tight foreboding smile, before returning to the conversation.
"So where would you like to begin, Agent Darkholme?" Scott reverted to formalities. Though Anna was an old friend, business was still business, and Scott treated it as such. He didn’t let things slide, which some could see as tight-fisted but Jean saw it as "Have a look at the books, a tour of the school, or a list of curriculum and the students' grades?"
"Well, Headmaster Summers," Jean cracked a smile at Rogue’s formalities, which matched her husband’s. Seems she hasn’t lost her touch. "Ah'm gonna give you the paperwork that you need to fill out- don't have to do it now, just sometime before Ah leave. And yes, Ah'll be needing transcripts and curricula for the core classes, as well as a basic overview of your powers training program and a full list of the teachers you currently are employing. Also, Ah'll need to set up interviews with two of them, one on one. Already got one volunteer, and Ah'll probably just grab Betsy for the other." Jean had a feeling she already knew who that ‘volunteer’ was. A certain red-eyed Cajun came to mind. Rogue would have an interesting time in Remy’s office, if you could call it that. He was barely ever in there. He probably didn’t know what colors his walls were. That is, if he even remembered where to find the place.
< Honey, I can handle this if you want to go check up on Nathan. He's probably wondering what's going on, stuck in the War Room by himself. > Jean’s brows shot up slightly. Scott could handle the inspection on his own, of course, but Jean didn’t want to just leave him there to do it all himself. He had a tendency to think the world would fall apart if he wasn’t there to save it, and unfortunately, the day was trying it’s hardest to unravel.
It would be nice to go check up on Nathan, though. But first, she had to explain what was going on downstairs. < Nathan’s not exactly alone in the War Room, Dear.. > Jean paused, trying to put this delicately. < Sharon is down there with him. Sean put them in the War Room together. > That’s right, it was all the Irishman’s fault. Jean glanced a slightly more sympathetic eye towards Sean than the one she’d given him earlier. Now that Scott knew about Sharon and all that had happened this morning, and that Sean had thrown Nathan into the mix—well, the outcome was going to be messy.
< But thank you, Love. I think I’ll go see how things are fairing. > Jean sent Scott a mental kiss on the cheek along with a tiny smile, appreciating his understanding. Jean listened as Anna went on about sitting in on some classes, as well as needing to look at the budget. Scott had that all under wraps, but she knew it would be nerve-racking just the same, having Rogue examine it. If anything, Anna was scrupulous when it came to her job.
"I’m sure you’ll find everything in order," Jean gave Rogue a hug, "I’ve got some errands I have to attend to as well, so I’ll leave you in Scott’s capable hands. But let’s have that night out soon." Jean gave Sean a small smile and her husband an encouraging glance.
< Don’t worry, everything will be fine, > She tried to reassure him through their rapport, < If you need me, I’m closer than a thought away. > With that she gave him one more wave of comfort before slipping out the door.
