Magneto was relieved that Xavier had decided to stick to business. There was no way the world' most powerful telepath would not have sensed his well-hidden emotional turmoil over Magda, but Charles was not the type to pry into one's mind, especially when more important issues were at hand.
"I know very little as well about this Colonel Hampshire. What I do know is hardly enough to accuse the man of the attack on the mansion. What concerns me more is the law that is about to be passed now. That we must rely on those we chose to lead us, to make designs for all mankind, mutant and human. I fear that the choice they are about to make will be to large of a burden for them to bare, but we can help. We can push the process to recognize fair and unalienable human rights. Charles paused and for moment, let how exhausted he was show through his normally calm, passive demeanor. Erik was concerned, but for now, didn't say anything about his friend's obvious fatigue. He also mentioned that, indeed, the White Queen of the Hellfire Club was in Washington, D.C., as a tenuous ally.
He did offer Xavier a quizzical look at his little speech. "You know I have no intentions of leaving the future of mutantkind in the hands of people who's vote can be bought and sold as easily as any other commodity, Charles," he replied evenly. "And I doubt your manner of 'convincing' them to vote against this law is same as mine. I know exactly what is going on in the American Congress, old friend. Now what are we going to do about?"
As he spoke, he could feel the temperature in the room rising. His steely eyes flashed to Phoenix as her hair began to weave around her, and fire burst from between her eyes. "And for your own benefit, Erik," she paused, turning her burning gaze on him. "it would be wise not to mention her again."
Magneto did not like being threatened under any circumstances, and especially not when he had come in peace, to work as allies. Blue energy flashed around his eyes and electricity crackled around one of his hand, which he had balled into a fist. "Do not think to threaten me, Mrs. Summers," he replied coldly. "I came here offering an alliance. The least you can do is be civil."
Xavier's reaction to Jean's outburst surprised Erik. "JEAN THAT IS ENOUGH!" Charles practically roared at his student, and even Magnus could feel the surge of psionic energy behind that order. Something was very wrong here and Magneto planned to find out as soon as he could get Phoenix out of the room.
He dissipated the electric energy, his eyes ceasing to glow. "I think you might wish to join your husband, Mrs. Summers," he suggested quietly. "At least until you can control your temper. If you keep increasing the temperature in this room, you are more likely to harm Charles than you are to harm me. I am completely vulnerable to his powers without my helmet, so he is quite safe to be alone with me."
He turned his attention back to Xavier, allowing his concern to show on his face. Something was very wrong here and he wanted to know what was going on. Now.

Jean didn’t pay much attention as Charles babbled on about how Colonel Hampshire couldn’t be blamed for the attack on the school, though the man probably had hand in it somehow. There was too much fire. Too much red blanketing her vision. Magneto’s reply barely registered with her, but she knew how he would answer. Of course Magneto wasn’t planning on approaching the Senate meeting in a civilized manner. Typical of the magnetic mutant. He doesn’t give homo sapiens the chance to prove his ideology wrong. Because the “Master of Magnetism” is never wrong, right?
Oh, but of course.
< No Jean you must quite your mind! Do not be goaded by your emotions! Take control of your mind Jean! > Xavier tried to calm her down, alarm ringing through his voice.
But Jean was too enraged to take much heed. Scott was right to leave like he did. Charles was being way too evasive for her liking. For him to have dealings with both the White Queen and Magneto spoke volumes.
"Do not think to threaten me, Mrs. Summers," Magneto eyed her. "I came here offering an alliance. The least you can do is be civil." He began a pathetic attempt to intimidate her as electricity crackled around his clenched fist. And now Charles’ “old friend” was trying to goad her into anger? If he wanted her to be angry, then he definitely succeeded.
’He is nothing! A mere speck in the infinite scale of the cosmos. With one wish he could be gone, writhing on the ground in scorching agony, begging for a swift demise.’
A knowing smile passed Jean’s lips.
Her hand raised and began to form a swell of volcanic-hot energy. Before she could expand it a swell of psionic energy pushed against her.
"JEAN THAT IS ENOUGH!" Clenching her hand to close out the ball, Jean focused on her mentor. ’He just tried to attack me!’ No, Charles wouldn’t do that. ’But he just did.’
The air in the room thickened with dense heat. An almost luminous swirl of what nearly looked like flames began to surround Jean’s body. How dare they speak to her like that. She didn’t expect much from Magneto, but Charles? He knew better. He knew what she was capable of!
Finishing his little electric display, Magneto spoke up quietly, "I think you might wish to join your husband, Mrs. Summers. At least until you can control your temper. If you keep increasing the temperature in this room, you are more likely to harm Charles than you are to harm me. I am completely vulnerable to his powers without my helmet, so he is quite safe to be alone with me."
Something Magneto said made sense, but she couldn’t pinpoint it at the moment. Too many thoughts. Too many feelings running around inside her head, first and foremost being rage and anger. It clouded her sensibilities.
< Jean, what's wrong? > Scott. He was always there. < Honey, are you all right? >
//Always always always//
Stumbling back a step, Jean’s eyes closed, the almost wave of flames circling her form evaporating into the air. The temperature wavered, spiking up to heat wave temperatures before quickly cooling down.
//Fire and life. Destiny. Destinydestinydestinydestin—//
"I—I’m sorry, Charles. I think I need some rest.." Resting her hand on her temples, Jean refused to look at the two men as she spoke softly, the words uncertain and confused. "Excuse me." Though she and Scott had their own room together in the penthouse suite, she knew she couldn’t go there with Charles talking with Magneto just outside her door. She needed to be alone, where there wouldn’t be many people.
< I'm--I'll be fine, Scott.. > Forgetting to close the door, Jean exited the penthouse and took the elevator, stepping out on a random floor. It didn’t matter where she ended up. She just had to rest for a few minutes. Then she’d be fine.
Then she’d be fine.

It was clear that Charles was exhausted. The episode with the great psychic force he had encountered had drained him of his very strength.
"Magnus, I must apologize. Perhaps we could continue this in the morning. I do not feel quite up to a lengthy chat tonight." Slowly Xavier wheeled away from the table, it took every bit of his remaining strength to do so.
Moving to the door to his room, the Professor opened it "Thank you for your time Erik, perhaps we can work together on this. I fear it will take all of us to solve this dilemma. Now if you'll excuse me I must rest. I'll let you see yourself out. Goodnight old friend."
Xavier entered closing the door behind him, his hands again covered his face, as the stress was greater then he could bare. Allowing himself moment Charles moved beside the bed pulling himself into it, but rest did not come easy as his mind was filled with emotion. "They must not see me weakened so.. I must be strong for my X-men. Oh Jean, Scott do not abandon me now, but I fear you shall for what I must do to protect you may cause me to lose you both.." Eventually unable to keep his eyes open any longer, sleep finally came, as he drifted off forced into it by his fatigue.

Magneto watched as Phoenix finally stormed off as her husband had. There was some dissension in the X-Men's ranks. He turned his attention back to Charles, about to ask what was going on. Xavier looked so weary and pale, he decided against it. When Charles asked him to return in the morning, he agreed. In truth, he had things of his own to sort out and he'd found his followers had a penchant for petty nonsense with his presence lacking. Hopefully, they'd not disturbed Magda. And then there was Magda. He still was not certain what do with her. "I understand Charles," he replied. "Get some rest. I need to speak to Raven when she arrives anyway. She may have valuable information or ideas to help us in our endeavor."
He paused at the door. "I will return in the morning, old friend," he told him. "I hope we can find a way to work together. This bill gives us enough common enemies, we should not be fighting amongst our own kind. Good night, Charles."
As he stepped from the room, he wondered why Xavier was looking so pale. Was his oldest friend ill? Could it have to do with this Colonel Hampshire, or perhaps even Jean Grey-Summers out burst? Perhaps Charles was merely tired from all that had gone on. Neither he or Xavier were young men and Charles did not have the advantage of having his age reduced as Erik had. Still, he was concerned about his friend. They were enemies merely in philosophy. Magnus had nothing but respect and affection for Charles Xavier. He just didn't agree with his methods of saving their race's future.
Magnus let out a long, heavy breath and took the elevator down to his room, wondering what his long lost wife thought of Exodus. Exodus would think nothing about her, it was not his place. The rest of Brotherhood would likely want answers, but what they desired would have to wait. He'd explain whatever he pleased about her. For now, they needed to focus on this bill and Colonel Hampshire.

White Queen via telepathy to Xavier
Stopping to take a sip of juice, she mentally reached out to Charles, still amazed that he would allow her through his shields, and said, <Good morning, Charles. I hope you slept well. When should we meet?>

<Good morning, Charles. I hope you slept well. When should we meet?>
Xavier stirred, and though he awoke from and eight hour sleep, he did not feel rested. Nor did he expect the sudden entrance of Emma into his mind. Not wanting to upset the delicate balance he created with his new "allies", Charles focused partly on blocking off his recent memories concerning the attack on his mind.
<Good Morning Emma.> Xavier answered with a pleasant reassuring tone. <I trust that you are well this morning?>, without waiting for an answer Charles continued, < My limo will meet you at the lobby entrance in one hour, unless you have more pressing matters?>

White Queen via telepathy
Emma smirked although he couldn't see it and replied in a soft, silky “voice”, <I am very well this morning, Charles. I'm ready for whatever this hearing may throw at us. Are you? As for my more pressing matters, unfortunately, I have none. You have my undivided attention, Darling. I'll see you in one hour.>

< I am very well this morning, Charles. I'm ready for whatever this hearing may throw at us. Are you? As for my more pressing matters, unfortunately, I have none. You have my undivided attention, Darling. I'll see you in one hour, .> Emma replied back to Charles. It was good to know that she was ready for anything. Emma Frost had to be. There was no telling what to expect or what these politicians could bring to the table.
Charles let the conversation go for now. He needed to get himself ready for the long important day. Extra care had to be made in his personal appearance. Once he dressed himself in a suit, Charles started to wheel himself to the elevator but stopped himself. There was no way Erik could go out in the public eye without being noticed.
< Perhaps we should move this meeting to my penthouse. Mr. Lehnsherr would be more comfortable not in public view, > Charles told Ms. Frost. Charles thought she would be understanding. The three of them were working together on this hearing so there was no reason they should make it more difficult on each other.
< Erik, we have moved the meeting to my penthouse. Bring one of your disciples that could go to the hearing in your place, > Charles informed his friend. < There is no way you will be allowed in the area of the hearing without drawing attention to yourself, > Professor X explained. Erik knew he was a wanted man. The government, no doubt, had extra security just in case the master of magnetism decided to show up.

Mildly irritated at the sudden change of plans, she did understand why they needed to move it to the Penthouse. Why Charles couldn't have come to that conclusion on his own was beyond her. Then she thought of what he had said. Lensherr was going to be there? Last she heard, Charles was warning her against the Brotherhood. Emma had to wonder what changed in the hours since she last saw Charles.
The elevator was much more packed on her way up then it had been on her way down and her irritation grew in the crush of the crowd. However, Emma was schooled at keeping her emotions and thoughts to herself so she kept her expression coldly pleasant. The farther up she went in terms of floors, the more the crowd dissipated and finally, she was alone.
The doors to the elevator opened and Emma stepped out into the posh hallway of the Penthouse. There were a few doors, all rooms that were connected to the main one and Emma strolled over to the double doors that she knew entered into the main living area. Knocking twice, she dropped her hand and waited for Charles or one of his X-Men to open the door.

Phoenix Via Telepathy to Xavier Only
< Charles? It’s Jean. I was wondering if I might be able to have a moment of your time. > It felt so odd speaking like this to the man who was like a second father to her. < Scott and I were wondering about your plans, as well as who they are with. We’d like to be informed of anything you’ve got planned, since not being aware of the procedures is not the best move right now, for any of us. >
