Ash schooled her face to not reveal any fear in the few moments it took Besty to get there... Old habits die hard. She'd been in enough tight spots to learn that at least, even if she had no idea what she was going to do. She also didn't show any confusion while Aunt Besty pulled a card from her enbelope. The man obviously thought it legal and Ash couldn't imagine what it might be. She grabbed the bags from the man heart beating fast in her chest and actually made it to the bench before her legs gave out on her.
Aunt Besty didn't allow her time however to think about anything but launched into an explination. Fake name? ID? She lifted it out of the envelope in shaking hands. Yes there was her picture, and what was that? Dani Heart. She wondered silently if Aunt Besty knew that Ash was not her real name either but she didn't say that. That was her secret, and perhaps the professors if he had probed her mind that deep.
No one is going to be taking you away from me, from all of us, understand? You belong with the X-Men now, for as long as you want to
Ash looked up into the older womans eyes Id still in her hand. She saw a glint of the hard ninja in Aunt Besty's eyes and heard the love in her voice. Yes, if it was Aunt Besty alone protecting her, she was sure that no matter what, she would be safe. She believed it. She nodded slowly. Yes, she was the X-men's now, just like Rogue had said, and Joseph had confirmed.
Ash smiled, her heart had slowed down a bit but she was still nervous. She payed more attention to her surroundings. She didn't want to be caught off guard again."Ok" She stood up and felt her hand slide from the older womans grasp. She hadn't even noticed Aunt Besty had been holding it. She still felt weak from the scare, but she knew she had to push foreward and keep herself under control. At least she had prepared a little for that earlier. She searched her frozen brain fro something to say. " And I'm not beautiful, but one day I might be."
She really didn't want to sit there any longer. It reminded her of what just happened, and could have happened. She didn't want to think about it anymore. If they could get out of site, then she could forget about the whole thing, and be happy again like she'd been earlier.

Betsy could feel Ash pull herself together and it made her that much prouder of the girl. She really was trying and that was all any of them asked of her. Betsy didn't even argue over the "beautiful" comment, knowing that it was something Ash was going to have to discover for herself.
Giving her a confident smile, Betsy said, "Let's get going then, luv." After several more stores, their arms were once again loaded with packages and Betsy led them back to her car. At least they had the rest of the trunk and back seat to put things. The two of them had finished shopping for everyone on their lists and Betsy had even managed to find something to wear for Christmas. All in all, it had been an extremely successful shopping trip. Actually, it didn't matter whether they had been shopping or not, the time with Ash had been well worth it.
As an anxious shopper waited for their prized parking spot, Betsy put the car in gear and they headed back toward the mansion. Ash was once again in charge of music and this time, things were a bit livelier in terms of conversation. About half an hour after leaving the mall, Betsy pulled into the garage and turned off the engine. Looking at Ash, she said with a laugh, "Now comes the hard part. Getting past everyone with our packages without them peeking inside." Pulling the girl into a brief hug, Betsy said, "Thank you, Ash, for a wonderful day."
Getting out of the car, Betsy loaded her arms as much as she could and quickly made two trips to her room before the car was empty. Locking everything up, Betsy went to her room.

After they had eaten, Remy and Rogue spent quite a few hours just walking around. It was nice for Rogue to finally be off the mansion grounds, and both of them were more than glad to be able to escape both Joseph and Callisto for awhile. Most of the time was spent in silence, simply enjoying each other's company and moreso enjoying what silence they were actually able to find. The mansion was such a hectic place, even without the psycho Morlock and the clone hanging around. It was near impossible to find any vacant areas to talk. But the town was small and quiet and relatively deserted. Peaceful.
So peaceful, in fact that as they watched the sun set on a bench in the park, both of them nodded off to sleep. When Rogue woke up the next morning, it was almost time for her to meet with her parole officer. In fact, she had about fifteen minutes before the man arrived at the mansion to remove the electronic anklet. Which was in Joseph's pocket. A few miles away. Not really caring about being seen, she grabbed Gambit and flew off to the mansion.
