“Sean, maybe we should head into the Infirmary and let me look at your head a bit closer. Sharon is a special and wonderful cat but she is still a cat, there isn't anything more to her then that,”
Sean thought for a few minutes. Then he tossed the mouse, to let Sharon have her fun. He didn't feel like going up to the infirmary. Ever since he'd spent all that time in the hospital, he avoided be a patient in there whenever possible. He'd treated the students and staff for various things, but he was a lousy patient. Maybe he'd just been reading more into the situation than there really was.
“Or maybe ye could put on tha' nurse outfit. Tha' always makes me feel better.” He leered with an impish grin.
“I must have been just knocked goofy by this whole Nathan ordeal. That and the stress.” He leaned over to kiss her cheek.
“We need a vacation, Bets. I know we kinnae take one now, but sometime we need ta get away for a weekend or somethin'.”

“Sean, maybe we should head into the Infirmary and let me look at your head a bit closer. Sharon is a special and wonderful cat but she is still a cat, there isn't anything more to her then that,” There was that word again. Cat. That meant her. So did Sharon. So they were talking about her twice? It didn't matter though, as Purple Luv started to pet her. She looked over for a brief second before going back to the mouse in Orange Luv's hand. < Throw it! > She was starting to get impatient. If he was just going to sit there and hold the mouse...
“You had better throw that mouse before she attacks your hand.” Good advice, Purple Luv. And luckily, Orange Luv decided to listen. The mouse went flying out into the hallway, and she was hot on it's heels, skidding a bit and crashing into the wall, but shaking it right off and batting the mouse down the long hallway, slipping a few times because of the slick surface. Giving it a particularly large whack, she chased it to just outside the medlab, where someone had stacked boxes.
“We need a vacation, Bets. I know we kinnae take one now, but sometime we need ta get away for a weekend or somethin'.” Pausing, she tilted her head. Vacation? That meant leaving. They were going to leave her? Turning back to the mouse, she went to give it another smack, then realized that her paw was much larger than it sould have been. Trying to back away from it, she tripped over her own hind feet, which had also grown substantially in size. She spun around, not realizing just how large she was getting, and knocked over the boxes with a loud crash. She attempted to meow for help, but all that came out was a roar. Startled, she quickly reverted back to her normal size, sitting in the middle of the mess and turning her head rather confusedly. What had just happened?

Sean thought about her suggestion of the Infirmary for a moment and Betsy could tell he was remembering the time he was in the hospital after being shot in the knee. She could recall how often she had been called by someone on the staff to come out and soothe him. How everyone knew to call her, Betsy would never know and she had never asked but it had worked. She could calm Sean down like no one else and Jean had been too upset over Scott to be of any help. And they had all been grieving Charles' loss.
“Or maybe ye could put on tha' nurse outfit. Tha' always makes me feel better,” he finally said with a smirk that she knew all too well. Betsy just rolled her eyes. Leave it to Sean to think about sex when they were supposed to be monitoring for any suspicious activities around the world. Well, she was, he was just there for the ride, it seemed.
“I must have been just knocked goofy by this whole Nathan ordeal. That and the stress,” Sean added without the smirk.
“Yes, this whole thing with the boy showing up claiming to be Nathan has all of us on edge. Thankfully, so few of us remember him. That will be a help to Jean and Scott should this child turn out to be an impostor,” Betsy agreed.
Sean had thrown the mouse and Sharon, in true catlike finesse, ran after it, sliding into the wall. Betsy had to laugh at her pretty little one's antics and wondered just how nice it would be to have the carefree life of a kitten. She brought herself out of the thoughts as Sean continued, “We need a vacation, Bets. I know we kinnae take one now, but sometime we need ta get away for a weekend or somethin'.”
Betsy sighed. In the ten years since they re-opened the school, there had been very little time for vacations. “We could always pitch the idea to Scott that we are going to see Brian for X-Men purposes but really turn it into a vacation,” she suggested with a smirk of her own.
Just then, a crash resounded from the hallway and Betsy jumped out of her chair and raced to the doorway. A loud “roar” erupted from down the hall and she ran out, expecting to find a large animal had somehow miraculously made it's way into the sub-basement. Instead, there was Sharon, sitting in obvious confusion in the middle of a bunch of turned over boxes.
Betsy looked around the source of the roar as she walked over and picked up her purple cat. Not finding anything and the med lab doors being closed tight, she looked into Sharon's purple eyes and asked, “What happened, Princess? What made that sound?” The odd thing was, Betsy suddenly expected her cat to answer her.

< Nathan? Jean, he's too old to be Nathan.> Betsy’s surprised voice broke through Jean’s thoughts. Too old? His mental voice sounded older than Nathan would be, but Jean wasn’t exactly sure how old the young man at the door was since she hadn’t seen him yet, or delved into his mind to see a mental image of himself. If he was too old to be Nathan, then that was another strike against him. Maybe what she felt from him had been wrong. There was no telling what this thing inside of her could be doing, messing with her senses.
< You're right, Jean. He....he feels just like Nathan. I sense that Scott and....”Nathan” are on their way to you. Keep me updated. If need be, we still have his records on file, we can do a DNA test. > Of course, his records. They would be able to tell for certain. And Jean couldn’t help but feel relieved that she wasn’t the only one who felt it. Betsy felt it, too. Her best friend paused for a moment before continuing, < Jean, please be careful. Although he feels right, let's make sure before we get too far. Sean and I can be up there very quickly if you need us.>
< Thank you, Betsy, > Gratefulness laced her words. < It will more than likely come down to DNA testing irregardless of what happens. > Jean didn’t want to start off distrusting the young boy, but what else could she do? When someone claims to be your dead son brought back to life but years older than he should be, disbelief is the first thing that comes to mind. < And I’ll keep you updated. > She promised, glad to have Betsy and Sean so close. There would definitely be some middle of the night gabbing therapy sessions with Betsy when this was dealt with.

“We could always pitch the idea to Scott that we are going to see Brian for X-Men purposes but really turn it into a vacation,”
Sean grinned at the smirk on Betsy's face, he might have some news for Brian and Meg if they did go. If tonight went as planned, which it hardly ever did. Then a loud crashing brought him out of his thoughts. He was after Betsy quickly, what the hell was going on? Then there was a loud roaring sound. He followed Betsy over to Sharon, wondering if she'd heard what he did.
“What happened, Princess? What made that sound?” Betsy was looking at Sharon, awaiting an answer. Now Sean knew he wasn't the only one over stressed. Hadn't she just told him that Sharon was only a cat? A wonderful cat, but nothing more? It was going to be good to get away from the mansion tonight. They needed a break, perhaps more than he had realized earlier.

Soon, Purple Luv scooped her up and started walking. She calmed down a little bit, relaxing in the Luv's arms. Looking up as they stopped again, she tilted her head expectantly. “What happened, Princess? What made that sound?”
Looking down at the boxes, she thought for a minute. Sound? The falling? No, the roar. Looking back up at Purple Luv, she responded, < Cat, Luv. > It was weird. She still understood exactly what Purple Luv was saying. Just like she'd understood some of it before, and what Glasses Man who hates cats said, too. She'd been around people most of her life, so she'd learned English... but she'd never really figured that out. Most of what they said came through as a garbled mess, but somewhere in her mind, she had been storing away the words, piecing them together, figuring out what they meant. Looking down again, she spotted the yellow mouse. < Mouse! >
She leapt from Betsy's arms and dove into the mess, snaking around a box and attacking the mouse from behind. Carrying it in her mouth, she proudly trotted back to Orange Luv and dropped it at his feet. < Throw it. >

After being dismissed by Scott, Ash went to the only place she knew she would get answers. Besty. Besty had always been there for her when Xavier had taken her from the prison to the school. Besty had always given her the answer's she needed. Scott had told her and Warren to calm the students down that knew what was happening. Ash had contemplated following that order for about an eight of a second. Let Warren take care of the kids. He was better at it that she. She figured she was missing that whole natural motherhood comforting gene. God help her children if she ever had any!
Ash entered the room, Besty was standing, the purple cat was there damn that thing got around, and Sean was sitting and looking board, and the rest of the room was empty. It occured to Ash that she was probably intterrupting one of the few times where Sean and Besty had time alone together, but at the moment she just didn't care. She beelined for Besty face drawn and still a little paler than normal. "Besty! Your a telepath, so I know you know." She glared at Besty daring the older woman to tell Ash she had no idea what was going on. Ash knew Besty would know, if Scott had been affected by Jean then all the telepaths would. Besides, Jean might have notified Besty about the situation.
Ash gave up trying to justify why Besty would know, and concentrate about the matter on hand. SHe didn't care why, all she cared about was answers. Scott had not been too verbous about the situation. "Is that Nathan?"

Sharon cocked her head at Betsy, as if she were considering Betsy's question and Betsy continued to just stroke the purple cat's head. In the meantime, Jean had replied to her and promised to keep in touch. Her dear friend had sounded almost relieved that Betsy had sensed Nathan as well but Betsy was still very apprehensive. Looking at Sean, she said, “Jean agrees that this will probably come down to a DNA test. I think we should go ahead and pull his records and get things ready for a blood test.”
Suddenly, in the back of her head, she heard, <Cat, Luv.> The phrase made no sense and Betsy had never heard the voice before. Looking back to Sharon, the cat jumped out of her arms and went back to stalking the toy mouse. <Sean, I think something odd is happening. Do you think it's possible that Sharon is a mutant feline? I mean, there are mutants in the animal kingdom as well....> her psychic voice trailed off.
Ash came in, looking like she was ready for war. "Betsy! Your a telepath, so I know you know. Is that Nathan?" she demanded.
Ash had come a long way since Betsy first met the girl. Back then, she never would have thought to confront anyone like she was doing right now. Sighing, Betsy pointed to one of the chairs at the table and sat down on another one while Sharon dropped the mouse at Sean's feet. “We don't really know, Ash. Both Jean and I did a psychic probe and he feels like the baby did but how can he be Nathan? You saw as well as we did thanks to the cameras. He's too old but he felt....he just felt so....right. It's a bit difficult to explain. I think it is going to have to come down to DNA testing if he survives Scott,” she said.
Then she thought about the footage of both Scott and Nathan and added, “He looks like Scott, though. His eyes, his jawline, his mouth. The only thing that baby Nathan ever had of his mother's was her nose. It's small things but they are there.”
Betsy rubbed her head with her hands, the channel to Jean still clear in case there was any news. It had started out like such a normal day, too. Now she was imagining her cat was talking in her head and there were dead babies/now teenagers showing up on their doorstep. She agreed with Sean. They really needed a vacation.

<Sean, I think something odd is happening. Do you think it's possible that Sharon is a mutant feline? I mean, there are mutants in the animal kingdom as well....>
Sean was slightly amused to hear Betsy's surprised voice in his head. He thought back, 'Oh, so when I hear her voice, urgin' us ta throw her mouse, I'm concussed, but when ye hear it as well, she migh' be a mutant? I told ye there was somethin' goin' on.' Then Ash came pounding into the room, as Sean bent over to pick up the mouse. He launched it a good throw, knowing that Sharon would take off after it. He remembered the shy teenager Ash had been and was very pleased with how much she had grown.
Sean walked back over to the table and sat down, next to Betsy. He put an arm around her shoulder, looking at the table, he was reminded of their earlier activities, and grinned impishly. Good thing Ash didn't come down a bit earlier.
“What a day this is turnin out ta be.”

The elevator doors opened and then a very loud, unexpected voice called out. "Besty! Your a telepath, so I know you know." Startled, she jumped back, sliding a little biton the floor, her tail slightly puffed up. As soon as Sean threw the mouse again, though, she ran after it with a chirping noise, jumping around the boxes to find the mouse again. It was like her own private mountain range, and the mouse was like... like a yellow mountain mouse, or something.
Scuttling through the boxes, she cornered the mouse again, backing up and squatting, ready to pounce. Her tail twitched and she rocked back and forth a little bit, waiting for the opportune moment. And since the mouse wasn't moving, any moment really would have been good. Finally, she leapt on it, biting down hard and shaking her head. Dropping it, she noticed that the ground seemed a bit farther away. And the mouse was in two pieces. Turning, she looked back toward the room. The boxes were a lot smaller than she remembered. Stepping through them, she left the mouse pieces at the other end of the hall and padded into the War Room, not sure why she felt so big. But she wasn't going to get to use that moust again, that was for sure. She'd defeated her little fuzzy opponent, and she was still queen of the jungle. Metal hallway. Whatever worked.

Ash sat in one of the metal chairs Besty pointed to, but only because Besty wanted to, she really didn't feel like sitting at the moment. She clasped her hands in her lap and waited for the explinantion.... Besty didn't know, they'd have to wait for a DNA test, but he felt right. A DNA a Test! For crying out loud! they were telepaths! they could just go in and get the answer! It would go against their whole 'telepath' rules, but Ash figured this situation was worth that. The answer's Besty had given her were not the answers Ash was looking for. She wanted someone to tell her he wasn't their sone, the little Baby Nathan that had entranced her along with so many different students. The only thing that seemed slightly assuring was that Besty reitterated the fact that this Nathan was tooo old. He is to old she thought. he has to be. He's too old. Of course Besty ruined the moment by commenting on the fact that he looked like Scott. Ash groaned and stood up. " I know he looks like Scott! I stood right there with both of them. He looks like a miniature Scott..."
Ash walked away from the table, she was unsure on the whole matter. She hated being unsure. Unsure meant she couldn't do anything because she was too scared to mess up. Not that she'd ever tell anyone that she was scared, but she wouldn't do anything. (in this situation perhaps thats for the best or we might have 'Nathan shishkabobs') He couldn't be Nathan because he was too old, but he looked like Scott and looks told alot more than most thought. So what If he was...
" Oh God." she breathed and grasped one of the counters, "What if he is? I've made a complete ass of myself in front of him..." Or toward him, however they wanted to look at it. How was she supposed to apologize for her actions to the kid if he was their son... THe obvious answer to her was that she would, couldn't apologize... He would be just another student and she would treat him as such... but he was the summer's kid! No! He might be the Summers' kid. He wasn't nescessarily that now.
What a day this is turnin out ta be.” Ash turned to reply that yes this was, and she wasn't exactly enjoying it, but setlled for a loud scream. Face completely drained of blood she summoned fire into her hand and held it ready to burn the large purple creature in front of her. "there... tha... CAT!" she finally managed to splutter out of her mouth. It was amazing how startled one could get even as a part of a super power fighting team when you're trained to deal with surprises.

Sean tried to get under her skin by reminding her that just a short time ago, she was making fun of him thinking there was more to Sharon then met the eye. Betsy pointedly ignored him. Sharon went bounding after the mouse again and Betsy could hear her rummaging through the boxes in the hallway. Ash didn't take her answers very well and Betsy frowned at the younger woman. " I know he looks like Scott! I stood right there with both of them. He looks like a miniature Scott...” she cried as she stood up and walked away from the table.
Betsy didn't reply immediately. She had learned a long time ago to let Ash talk. It had been so hard to get her to talk when she first came to them that her and Jean had trained everyone to stop and listen when the girl talked. Now Betsy just knew that if she talked things through, Ash usually answered her own questions. " Oh God." she breathed and grasped one of the counters, "What if he is? I've made a complete ass of myself in front of him..." she continued, looking horrid at the thought of possibly having offended Nathan.
At that, Betsy had to chuckle. “Ash, you had every right to say what you did to him. We still aren't sure if he's Nathan or not. I am not about to go poking in his head, that is Jean's territory. No matter what she finds or doesn't find, we are still going to have to do the DNA test. You can scoff all you like but it is standard procedure. Well, as standard as things get around here,” Betsy told her.
Just then, all the color drained from Ash's face and she let out a scream and pointed behind Betsy. "there... tha... CAT!" she gasped as she created a flame in her hands. Betsy turned and saw the giant purple panther. Purple. There was only one creature that walked around on four legs that was purple. Sharon. Standing up calmly, her action hiding the fact that she was just as thrown by a panther in their War Room as Ash was, Betsy stepped between Ash and Sharon and slowly approached the feline.
Doing what little mind probe she could on the animal, Betsy could tell that this panther had all of Sharon's feel to her. Sharon wasn't doing anything aggressive, just sitting there so Betsy reached out her hand to the panther and looked it in the eyes. “Sharon?” she asked gently?

Of course Betsy didn't reply to his comments. Sean didn't really expect her to. Ash was very edgy about the whole Nathan ordeal, and he understood why. He listened to their conversation, just relaxing in the chair. After all, what was going to happen here in the war room? Nothing too exciting, he was sure. Oh was he proved wrong. Big time, as Ash went pale, like she'd seen a ghost. He looked to see what had her so freaked, and there was a purple panther in the war room. Sean rubbed his eyes, maybe he was hallucinating again. Yeah, that was it. Apparently not, since Betsy got up to go over to it.
“Sharon?”Sean got out of his seat, and walked slowly over to Betsy and Sharon. This day was getting stranger by the minute. If Ash started singing 'I'm a little teapot', he was going to grab Betsy and get the heck out of dodge. As soon as possible, maybe with a stop to Vegas on the way. They could go to Ireland, he hadn't been back to Cassidy Keep in many years. It was a nice thought, but it wouldn't work. Mainly because Betsy would kick his ass. And he couldn't leave Jean and Scott here at the institute. Not after everything they had been to together. Nope, but a weekend away would be wonderful.
“Definitely need a weekend away, luv.” He reached out to put one hand on Betsy's shoulder and the other to scratch Sharon behind her ears.

As Ash screamed, she flinched, her tail poofing up a tiny bit. "there... tha... CAT!" She looked behind her. Where? What? What was so scary? Turning back to the room, she cocked her head, trying to figure out why exactly Ash was hyperventilating. And when she'd gotten so small. Because she was definitely a lot bigger the last time she'd seen her. The Luvs, too. “Sharon?” Turning to look at Purple Luv, her ears perked up. Her hand was out. That meant petting. Standing up, she walked closer to her and head-butted her outstretched hand, waiting for the scratch. Soon. Orange Luv started to scratch her behind the ears, and she started to purr. And it was loud. Very, very loud. So loud that it scared her.
She stepped back, somewhat uneasy with her new, huge feet, and slipped, morphing for a split second into a very confused teenage girl, before ultimately landing on the floor in her original housecat form. Looking up at the three, she quickly began to clean herself. None of that had happened, they didn't see anything, and she was just cleaning the whole time. Yep. Just cleaning.

On a normal occasion Ash would have been very gratefull to Besty for the comforting words on the Nathan subject. That whole, it's ok because of blah, deal that makes almost anyone feel better. It doesn't nescessarily justify the action done, but it definantly makes dealing with it a while lot easier. So under normal circumstances Ash might have given Besty a small smile of thanks and then proceded to say it would probably be faster and easier to just probe the boy's head than have to run a whole DNA test. She might then have grudgingly NOT scoffed at procedure just because Besty had spoken about her doing that, and then fretted some more about the Nathan kid. Of course, this would all be under the normal stress, normal day, etc....
To bad life isn't normal. So the normal thanking Besty, and ranting, and scoffing, and worrying Ash might have considered doign wasn't even on her mind. She was too preocupied with the purple panther standing right in front of her to care. The purple panther that was sitting there watching them with friendly eyes. The purple panther that Besty was now walking toward. The purple pather that could probably eat Besty whole. The purple panther that was odly the same color as Sharon. THe purple pather that Besty now CALLED Sharon.
Ash let her fire go out as Besty held a hand out to the panther. Ash was still shocked and robbed of any rational thought or she might have called out to the older woman, screaming at her not to and that this was a panther they were dealing with not some precious, innocent cat. Sean joined Besty and began to scratch the panther, commenting on the fact that they needed a vacation. Ash was inclined to agree. She knew he'd been talking about Besty and himself, but hey, it had been a rough day. A day that kept getting rougher. First she'd woken up early, and she wasn't a morning person anyway, second she'd had to listen to Remy as he teased her about the fact that he woud get to train and she wouldn't, third she'd had to grade papers instead of train, fourth she'd had to teach a bunch on teen's that she wasn't to fond of anyway, fifth she'd found out a few of her students were failing, sixth she'd had to report it, seventh she'd seen the foundation of the school, Scott, completely loose his cool, and a boy who was supposed to be dead come back alive, not to mention that he was probably their son and she'd insulted him badly, oh yes and the ggigantic panther in front of her that she would have sworn was ready to eat her had it not just sat there, and then hear from a completely rational and sane woman that this monster was her dearly loved cat...
All on only two cups of coffee.
Dear lord what a day! Ash licked her lips as she tried to come up with the words to ask the question of how on earth could THAT be SHARON, but she never got the chance. The panther obviously scared of the fire that Ash had just put out, stumbled backwards and to Ash's complete surprise began to change form. Ash had seen mutations that allowed the person to change who they were. That was Mystique's own mutation, but a cat? A cat that was now turning into a young girl in front of her eyes, and then abruptly stopped and shrank back into the cuddly form of the cat, Sharon, that they all knew and loved.
Ash wimpered as the cat began to wash itself. She still held onto the counter, but now with a death grip. She was sure that if she didn't she would fall. she looked at Sean and Besty, opened her mouth to say something, but shut it again without a sound. She was completely and totally freaked out. Yes, she saw wierd mutations everyda, but this was just too much. If she were just a little bit younger, she probably would have burst into tears. However, as the mature adult that she was she refrained from doing any such thing... Barely.
Hey, it's no fun when your world falls completely apart.
When she was finally able to make her voice work she licked her lips and croaked out, "I. need. some. coffee. " and a mental examination she thought.
