She found him in the DR, preparing for a session. Thankfully it hadn’t started yet or she’d have waited until they were finished, < Hey, Slim, > Jean smiled over their link, < Sorry to interrupt. Just wanted to see how things are going with the tour. >
Her eyes fell on the newest additions to their family at the Institute, < Things have settled down here for the most part. > No more naked Sharon, for one thing. And though he was experiencing some uncertainty, Nathan seemed to be adjusting slowly to his new home. And with the two adult telepaths in the room, the atmosphere in the lab was very comfortable and secure.

"Wouldn't want me to kick your ass in your own school after all," [Rogue] commented.
Scott barely caught her wink as he turned back around. He laughed slightly and shook his head. "The students would never let me live it down." Anna-Marie had her gloves off and had set aside her clipboard. He pulled off his tie, wishing now he hadn't changed out of his training uniform after targeting class. And gotten more than three hours of sleep. Obstacle courses were not something he commonly practiced with. With his powers, obstacles rarely remained obstacles.
But the students ran them fairly often, and there were several in programmed into the Danger Room computer. He called up the simulation they used for the more advanced students, which required them to climb without the assistance of a rope, run through projectiles coming at them at high speeds and finally, cross a wide chasm.
Better still, the simulation was set in the Savage Lands, so the terrain itself could be an obstacle. Scott almost hoped the computer decided to randomly throw in some of the prehistoric native as it did sometimes. Velociraptors made the simulation much more challenging.
Suddenly Jean was in his mind. < Hey, Slim, > Jean smiled over their link, < Sorry to interrupt. Just wanted to see how things are going with the tour. >
< Not bad, Red, > he told her. < While I'm occupying Anna here, why don't you sneak Nathan up to a room in the Boys' Dorm? Someone can bring him something to eat later on. >
< Things have settled down here for the most part. >
Scott smiled back across their link. < Good,> he replied. < And honey, I'm probably going to need some R & R after this. Know anyone who might be interested? >
"So, what's the plan?" Anna asked as she stretched.
As the jungle appeared around them, Cyclops pointed to the vine covered, rocky cliff face in front of them. "Up the cliff, through the jungle. First one across the chasm wins," he told her. "Watch out for the perimeter guns and the dinosaurs."
Ordering the computer to give them a ten second countdown, Scott stretched out.
God, he was getting too old for this.

The room wavered and soon, they were standing in the middle of a jungle. The Savage Land. Lovely vacation spot, if you didn't mind getting eaten by animals that should have died millions of years ago. "Up the cliff, through the jungle. First one across the chasm wins," he told her. She nodded. Easy enough. Of course, he had the home field advantage. probably knew the course already. "Watch out for the perimeter guns and the dinosaurs."
Laughing, she shook her head. "God, if Ah had a nickel for every time someone's said that to me..."
She turned back to the jungle in front of her as the computer instructed them to go. Taking off, she headed through the brush, bearing slightly Northwest. She wasn't sure where exactly she was going, but as long as she kept on heading forward, she should be good.
The cliff loomed in front of her, and she looked up, letting out a low whistle. Damn. Yeah, that was definitely one hell of a climb. Reaching down, she unclipped her shinguards, letting them drop to the ground. Worthless pieces of shit anyway. Just looked nice, that's all. They were clunky and annoying, and not at all good for rock climbing. Moving along the rock face, she finally found a point that wasn't too steep, and started to climb. The face wasn't nearly as tough as it looked from the ground, and soon she was pulling herself up over the top. Glancing back down, she nodded at the shinguards at the bottom, then turned to the jungle in front of her. So far, so good.
A loud noise beside her made her jump as a stun laser ricocheted off of a nearby boulder. Rolling into the dense jungle and out of the way of that particular gun, she kept low, heading to where she assumed the chasm was. Rustling in the brush not too far from her prompted her to find a nice big tree to climb. If she could see the chasm and see where some of the bigger predators were, she'd have a better chance of getting there fast and alive.
She surveyed the area, frowning as she realized that there was a pack of raptors not too far from where she was. Little annoying sonovabitches, but they could really do some damage in a pack like that. She found the chasm, but couldn't locate Scott. No matter. As long as she kept on moving, she shouldn't have had any problems. Leaping out of the tree as another stun laser flew over her head, she landed in a crouch, grabbing a rock and hurling it as hard as she could in the general direction of the raptors. Hopefully, they'd hear the noise as the rock hit something and go after it. Not checking to see if it worked, she ran on toward the chasm.
She didn't have any other run-ins with dinosaurs, although the jungle itself had gotten a little predatory a few times, vines tangling up her legs. Eventually, though, she made it to the edge of the chasm. And what a chasm it was. Looking down, she couldn't see the bottom. It was easily ten feet across, and there was no way that she could make a jump like that. Ducking as another laser shot in her direction, she squatted behind a boulder, considering her options. Not many.
Heading back into the jungle, she pulled out a few particularly long vines, knotting them together and tying them to a large tree by the edge of the chasm. Wiping sweat from her face, she headed back into the jungle, dragging out a long log and dropping it across the chasm, pausing to catch her breath. Goddamn that was heavy. Tying the free end of the vine around her waist, she inched out onto the log, swinging aroung as the log shifted and hanging upside down. And then, the lasers started up again.
After a bit of a struggle, she finally hit her head on the opposite wall of the chasm. Twisting, she pulled her body up on top of the log, grabbing onto the edge of the cliff as the log rolled and fell down. Taking a few deep breaths, she pulled herself up onto the edge, untying herself and laying back, panting. Naptime, anyone?
Rolling her head to the side, she looked for Scott. Pulling herself to her feet, she stood up and tried to figure out if she'd beaten him or not. "Scotty?"

[Cross-posted with "Secret Lab" via Scott and Jean's mental link]
< Not bad, Red, > Scott’s voice sounded calm over their bond, so that was a good sign. < While I'm occupying Anna here, why don't you sneak Nathan up to a room in the Boys' Dorm? Someone can bring him something to eat later on. >
Jean nodded though he couldn’t see her, < Sounds like a good idea. It’ll be nice for him not to be stuck down here. > Not that the med bay and lab weren’t sufficient, but a bedroom would be much better for him to relax. Plus, he could take a shower and relax in solitude on a comfortable bed if he wished.
Upon hearing how things were going, Jean caught Scott’s smile over their link, < Good,> he replied. < And honey, I'm probably going to need some R & R after this. Know anyone who might be interested? >
Jean pretended to think it over, taking a moment before answering, < Hmm, I think I can find someone willing to participate. > Some R & R was definitely needed. After things settled with Anna’s visit and the Cuckoos as well as dealing with everything else that had transpired, Jean was looking forward to some time to unwind (or is that wind up?) with her husband.
Sending a minute shiver of anticipation over his mind, Jean grinned before adding, < Good luck, Sweetheart. Don’t be too hard on her. > Though it may very likely be the other way around. From what she’d remembered Anna gave it her best, and she doubted much had changed. Giving him a mental kiss, Jean let him be to return to his DR simulation.
