Nathan followed his mother through the halls of the mansion. He watched as students passed by, the younger ones playing with each other. The older students were a bit more sedate, but care free for the most part. Some of them even stopped to introduce themselves. Nathan didn’t really know what to say to them. How was he going to explain that he was the long lost child of the administrators without being expected to tell the story again? He was too tired emotionally to do that again today. In the end, he just told them his first name unless they specifically asked, which very few of them did.
He was lead to an empty room. Well, not completely empty, just no one residing there. It had the standard furniture, a bed, a desk and a lounge chair but it was otherwise empty. Nathan inspected the bare room and compared it to his old room. Even living under the Essex’s strict rule, it had more personality than this. He had a state of the art computer system which Nathan used to inspect the world he wasn’t allowed to go out in. He also used it as a means to explore music and movies, and later on to buy things. After a lot of convincing, he even got his own television, although he was only allowed to watch the news and classic movies.
Sitting down on the bed, Nathan had to wonder what would come next. He couldn’t take a tour of the mansion, because Rogue was still around. It wasn’t exactly a concern though. After the day he had, Nathan wasn’t ready to experiment with meeting anymore new people. He looked up at his mother and said “Thanks, those cots downstairs didn’t look very comfortable.” Now that he thought about it, a lot of what he saw down there looked out of place. The lab could pass off for a school medical facility, but the other one looked like a situation room, the kind used by the military. But he supposed that was also a conversation for another day. He didn’t expect them to reveal all their secrets after only one day with them.
