The rec room is big and spacious. There are several couches, along with a large tv and dvd player. There is a cabinet with a wide selection of movies, and quite a few board games.

((Enter Banshee))
Sean walked into the rec room, which was oddly empty. That was very unusual, they must all be in class. He had been glad to get out of the office, the atmosphere was just odd. And a bit tense, he was fairly certain that Scott was not thrilled with him. Of course later, he'd have to explain why he'd put Nathan and Sharon together in the War Room.
Sean hadn't been thinking, well, not about the ramifications of that. His mind had been on one thing, Betsy had said yes. He'd been euphoric with his head in the clouds. That wasn't an excuse, and he was sure that would not fly with Scott. Jean might be more sympathetic, but still, that had not been smart. They couldn't afford mistakes like that, not with everything they had to lose.
Sean sat down on one of the couches, feeling the effects of the day. He turned on the tv, maybe there'd be something entertaining on. Not likely, but it was worth a shot. Anything to take his mind off the probability of castration Betsy had planned for him later.

Kitty had finished her last class of the day and gone to her room to put her notebooks away. She looked at her computer and considered sitting down and playing on it for a while, especially since she could easily work on her project for her college course that was due next week, but she chose to put it off for a bit longer. Her conversation with Mr. LeBeau was still bothering her.
She had tried to be a bit more friendly to the other kids in her last class but it just didn't click. She wasn't outgoing, she wasn't exactly popular and pretty. No, it was just much, much easier to sit back and read or work on her homework. And for the first time in years, that didn't sound like much fun at all.
With a vow to never find herself alone again with the Cajun teacher, Kitty left her room and walked down the stairs, concentrating to stay solid. It was much easier to move around like a living ghost but part of her training was to remain solid when she could. As boring as that sounded. Walking into the rec room, she heard the television and saw the back of the head of Mr. Cassidy.
Smiling, as she liked the Irish teacher, Kitty walked over to the couch opposite of him and said, “Hi Mr. Cassidy. Did things go okay with the Red Guard?” She knew they came every so often to check on the school as she had been there through a few such inspections already.

“Hi Mr. Cassidy. Did things go okay with the Red Guard?” Sean had heard Kitty before she came into the room, it was one of the perks of having his powers. He turned and smiled at the young teenager.
“Hello, Kitty. Things have gone well so far. I dinnae expect any trouble.” Not until after the inspection, once Jean, Scott, or Betsy got him alone. That was going to be interesting. He could usually get himself out of trouble with Betsy easily, but Scott and Jean were another matter all together. Betsy was his fiancee now. That was still a thought he had to wrap his mind around. She'd said yes! That thought made him smile, and he settled into an easy chair to relax a bit. He passed the remote to Kitty, he didn't care what they watched.
“Pick out whatever ye'd like ta watch. Oh, some interestin' news, I asked Ms. Braddock ta marry me, an' she said yes. Maybe ye and Jean could put tagether a shower or somethin'?” He couldn't keep the glee from his voice as he spoke. Yes, Betsy was going to kill him later, but that was later.

“Hello, Kitty. Things have gone well so far. I dinnae expect any trouble,” Mr. Cassidy told her.
She smiled, knowing that he was probably right. “Yeah, Mr. Summers runs a pretty tight ship, doesn't he?” It was actually one of the reasons she had agreed when Mrs. Summers came to “recruit” her for the school. She liked how strict it was and actually had no issues with the rules and the courses. Then again, she'd also never had a reason to break any of the rules. Her life was beginning to sound rather boring. Dammit, she was not going to let Mr. LeBeau get to her.
Sean told her to pick out whatever she wanted to watch but honestly, Kitty didn't know the first thing about what was on television. She usually ignored it when she was in the rec room. Then he dropped some rather interesting news on her with a grin that would rival the Cheshire Cat's. “Oh, some interestin' news, I asked Ms. Braddock ta marry me, an' she said yes. Maybe ye and Jean could put tagether a shower or somethin'?”
Kitty stared at him for a moment. Ms. Braddock was going to marry him finally? It was a long standing joke that she would never marry him although they'd been together forever. With a smile that didn't even come close to matching Mr. Cassidy's, because no one's could, Kitty replied, “Congratulations! That is wonderful news, Mr. Cassidy. When is the wedding? And I'll certainly help Mrs. Summers with a shower. That will be so much fun.”

“Yeah, Mr. Summers runs a pretty tight ship, doesn't he?” Sean nodded at that, Scott did keep things in order. It was a good thing that he did, otherwise, things would get chaotic. Not that they didn't already. Even with Scott running things, some stuff could not be predicted. Like Nathan coming back from the dead. Or Sharon being a mutant this whole time. Those were just some odd things that popped up, unexpectedly.
“Congratulations! That is wonderful news, Mr. Cassidy. When is the wedding? And I'll certainly help Mrs. Summers with a shower. That will be so much fun.” Sean chuckled, they hadn't even brought up a date yet. He hoped it didn't take him as long as it had to just convince her to date. He didn't want to wait for years, to marry the woman he loved. He wasn't about to deal with four more years, he wasn't getting any younger.
“I just popped the question today, and we have nae set a date yet. Hopefully, with ye and Mrs. Summers planning the shower, it might help ta move things along.” Sean noticed that Kitty didn't seem all that enthused about watching television, maybe she'd like to play chess. He spotted the board, and brought it over.
“Would ye like ta play chess?”

“I just popped the question today, and we have nae set a date yet. Hopefully, with ye and Mrs. Summers planning the shower, it might help ta move things along,” Mr. Cassidy admitted.
Kitty was surprised. He was wanting them to plan a shower when he didn't know the date of the wedding? She may not be up to date on the latest fashion and such but she did know that most showers took place closer to the date of the wedding. Unless he was planning on whisking her off to Vegas or something, which knowing Ms. Braddock was always a possibility. “Oh,” she said. Then regained her composure and added, “I'll see what Mrs. Summers has to say about it.”
Then he got up and pulled out a chess board and looked at her with a grin. “Would ye like ta play chess?” Mr. Cassidy asked.
Chess. Now that was something she knew about. It didn't have to do with weddings, showers, clothing, television or the latest pop stars. No wonder she got along better with adults then kids her own age. Settling at the table, Kitty looked at Mr. Cassidy and said, “Prepare to lose, Mr. Cassidy.”

“Oh, I'll see what Mrs. Summers has to say about it” Sean noticed that Kitty seemed surprised by his trying to get the shower rolling before the date had been set. Well, if Kitty knew how long it had taken Betsy to agree just to date him, she would understand. Maybe by having a shower in the works, he'd be able to get her to set a day for the wedding. If she didn't kill him, which was was possible. Or she'd just set Scott and Jean on him.
Sean watched Kitty's face light up when he mentioned chess. This was one of the best things about being a teacher here, getting to interact with the students.
“Prepare to lose, Mr. Cassidy.” Sean grinned,
“Aye, ye know, a wise man once said 'Yuir overconfidence is yuir weakness.” He teased her back, she'd probably get the reference to Star Wars.

Mr. Cassidy was perhaps one of the most easy going of the teachers at the school. Mr. Summers was very uptight, Mrs. Summers was usually busy with training the telepaths, Ms. Braddock was very demanding, especially in the Danger Room, Ms. Munroe was interesting but she seemed to not have a lot of confidence, Mr. Worthington was scary and Ms. Ash just didn't like students. Then there was Mr. LeBeau. If Kitty lived to be a hundred, there was no way she would ever take a class with him as the instructor.
“Aye, ye know, a wise man once said 'Yuir overconfidence is yuir weakness',” Mr. Cassidy informed her.
Kitty thought about it and couldn't place the quote to save her life. She knew and had studied all the famous philosophers and such throughout history. Giving Sean a blank look, she asked, “Is that a reference to something in pop culture?”
Once again, she had to push the nagging voice in her mind that wondered if Mr. LeBeau wasn't right about her after all. But honestly, how would one go about changing their entire personality? And why bother? She wasn't lonely. Much.
Looking down at the chess board, something dawned on her. She could beat just about anyone at chess but give her a movie reference and she drew a complete blank. After making her next move on the board, she looked up at Mr. Cassidy and asked, “Do you think it's a bad thing to be completely focused on studies?”

“Is that a reference to something in pop culture?” Sean looked closely at Kitty. She was serious. She had no clue what he was referring to. Oh, this would never do, luckily, he'd gotten the deluxe box set for his last birthday. He grinned,
“Tha's from Star Wars, one of the mos' famous movies of all time. Well, I know an assignment for ye, then.” He made his move, chess was a game he was pretty good at, and he really enjoyed it. Plus, Kitty would challenge him.
“Do you think it's a bad thing to be completely focused on studies?” Sean considered her question for a moment,
“Nae really a bad thing, per se, schoolwork is verra important. There needs ta be a bit of balance in there. I know ye like chess, and readin' books. What else do ye like ta do in yuir spare time?” Sean asked her kindly, also trying to think of things that she could do with the other students. Maybe they could start a chess organization of some sort.

“Tha's from Star Wars, one of the mos' famous movies of all time. Well, I know an assignment for ye, then,” he told her, giving her the kind of look that Mr. LeBeau had earlier. Was she really so odd compared to everyone else?
“Well, I've heard of Star Wars,” she replied in a defensive manner. So what if she hadn't ever had an interest to actually watch it. Apparently, Mr. Cassidy thought it was important enough that she was going to watch it anyway. “I take it my assignment is to watch this Star Wars movie?”
When she asked if focusing on an education was bad, he replied, “Nae really a bad thing, per se, schoolwork is verra important. There needs ta be a bit of balance in there. I know ye like chess, and readin' books. What else do ye like ta do in yuir spare time?”
Oh, god, this was turning into the same discussion she'd had with Mr. LeBeau. He would probably tell her that unless she learned how to party and have friends, she'd never get anywhere in life. “I like to take online courses through the local universities. I like to program stuff on my computer. Why?” she asked very apprehensively.
Kitty wanted nothing more then to phase through the floor so she didn't have to hear his answer. She knew better then to ask such questions. No, she was much better off sticking to herself so she didn't put her foot in her mouth. Again.

“Well, I've heard of Star Wars. I take it my assignment is to watch this Star Wars movie?” Sean could hear the defensive tone in Kitty's voice. “Nae just an assignment. It'll be fun, trust me. We can make it a movie night, I'm sure Ms. Braddock would love ta join in, make popcorn, have some fun.” Sean gave her his most winning smile as he moved his rook.
“I like to take online courses through the local universities. I like to program stuff on my computer. Why?” For some reason, Kitty seemed edgy about his questions. It was like she expected Sean to harp on her about being social. He had spent enough years with students to know that not all of them were going to be social butterflies, and it wouldn't do them any good to push them to be.
“Just curious, it's an irish thing. I know of a few other students who like playing chess. Maybe we could start up a team. Would ye be interested?”

“Nae just an assignment. It'll be fun, trust me. We can make it a movie night, I'm sure Ms. Braddock would love ta join in, make popcorn, have some fun,” Mr. Cassidy told her.
Kitty gave him another skeptical look. It would be a bit odd to watch a movie with a teacher and his new fiancée. She hoped that they wouldn't do anything to make her uncomfortable. Her mother had never been very affectionate with her and she'd obviously never even been kissed before so watching others get cozy was still rather odd. She simply nodded her consent.
She made her move, an attempt to trap his bishop and looked up as he continued, “Just curious, it's an Irish thing. I know of a few other students who like playing chess. Maybe we could start up a team. Would ye be interested?”
Raising an eyebrow, Kitty licked her lips and replied, “That only makes me glad there are no other Irish teachers or students here. As for a chess team, who would we play against? Each other? I'm just not sure there is enough interest for something like that but you can try.” She didn't want to be a pessimist but it was just her nature. She wasn't depressed or anything, just not upbeat and outgoing about anything.

Kitty just gave Sean a bit of a look, like she wasn't sure it'd be so much fun. Then she nodded, still obviously having some misgivings. Maybe she thought that he and Betsy would start making out on the couch.
“That only makes me glad there are no other Irish teachers or students here. As for a chess team, who would we play against? Each other? I'm just not sure there is enough interest for something like that but you can try.”
“What, and here I thought I was yuir favorite teacher?" He grinned before continuing, "We'll see. If nothin' else, I do like ta play chess, and it's been a while since I've actually had a challenge. I know a few of the other staff members enjoy the game. Tha' way ye dinnae get tired of beating me all the time.” Kitty was good at chess, that much was certain. It was good to have someone hard to beat.

Well, Mr. Cassidy thought she should spend more time with the other teachers and Mr. LeBeau thought she should spend more time with other kids her own age. It was a bit confusing and Kitty was pretty much of the opinion that perhaps she should just stick to herself. Everything else was much too complicated. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy a challenge, far from it. As long as the challenge didn't involve other people.
Idly, she moved her pieces, not really paying attention to the game as her thoughts were moving in so many other directions. Looking at the board, a smug little smile formed on her lips as she declared, “Check mate.” It was a small victory but one nonetheless. Glancing at the clock, she frowned slightly. They had been sitting there for a couple of hours already. Her suddenly growling stomach reminded her that it was about dinner time and that meant having to sit in the dining area with the other students. Unless she took a sandwich to her room again...
