Sean secured the second sub-basement for the second time that day, and headed upstairs. He vaguely remembered Anna-Marie. She'd left shortly after he arrived at the school. If his memory served, Anna and Betsy had been close friends. This had to be an interesting reunion. He wondered if Betsy had taken of the ring, he wouldn't be surprised at all if she had. He walked out into the fresh afternoon sunshine, and grinned. Yes, the day had been weird. Nathan coming back and Sharon's new abilities.
Sean came into the back yard to find a group out there. He grinned and walked over to them. Remy and Ash were also out there. Ash looked a lot calmer than earlier. And Betsy was wearing the ring! No wonder Remy didn't look very happy.
“Hello, Anna. It's been a while since ye've been here.”

Remy watched Betsy for a reaction, coming eye to eye with her. Her eyes narrowed but she didn’t say anything. She wouldn’t forget though, she couldn’t. From what he knew about telepaths, they remembered everything. He just hoped she’d leave it alone, because if she wanted the information, she’d have to take it from him.
"You think I would start something that requires suit and tie? Gambit for shame! Even so... if your there it'll turn into something casual," Ash retorted. His comment apparently went right over her head. She must have shaken him up good, because his commons were always obvious, even when he was just messing with her. “Well, ya know what Remy tinks about dress codes: De less you dress, da less ya gotta take off lata’.” Ok, she had to get that one. But just to make sure, pulled at the bottom of Ash’s shirt a little.
Betsy slipped her arm through Rogue’s and began to walk off. Remy followed a few feet behind, where the view was better. He decided to stay close by. Hell, if she hadn’t suspected anything by all the people surrounding her yet, she wasn’t going to. He did stay relatively quiet though. Unnecessary speech caused accidents.

“I believe he came just before you left. Sean Cassidy, Irish, red hair, has a voice that can shatter just about anything, excellent kisser although I'm not about to let you test that theory. You'll meet him soon enough,” She frowned for a minute, trying to remember Sean. Red hair... "The cop, right?"
“Yes, his manners and people skills do need some work but you really should see him without a shirt on. Almost makes up for what he lacks in other areas,” She looked up at the sky, watching Angel as he moved around. "Mmm, Ah bet."
It didn't look like she'd have to even leave the grounds to go man-hunting with Betsy and Jean. Then again, it probably wouldn't be very professional of her to grab one of their teachers in the middle of an inspection and suggest that they go inspect his bedroom. Maybe some trolling off grounds was a better idea. If they had the time, and thir husbands (wow, Betsy was going to have a husband?!) were okay with it. “Sean? Oh, dear god, if he isn't used to my ways by now he never would have asked for a larger commitment. I don't think he'd have a problem with us traipsing through town looking for a bit of fun. Although getting Jean to agree with it may be a bit more challenging.”
She grinned. "Ah'm always up for a challenge."
But the challenge would have to wait for later. Business first. “What did they do to you, Anna? We haven't seen each other in a decade and all you can think about is doing the boring yearly inspection?” She laughed, leaning into her friend for a moment before replying, "Hey, you want to talk about different? You're getting married, Bets. Besides, you know my momma'd kill me if all Ah went back with was party favors and a few phone numbers."
“How is your mom and brother these days? Wasn't his name Kurt?” She nodded, frowning slightly. Kurt. Kurt and Lorna. Kurt and Lorna at the dinner table, practically jumping on each other. Not a good mental image. "They're good. Kurt is probably workin' on getting himself fried by Un- Magneto as we speak, but otherwise they're good."
She fished the forms out of her bag and they started walking, Betsy suggesting that they start with the outside. That worked for her. As they began to move, the redhead in question came out to greet them. “Hello, Anna. It's been a while since ye've been here.” She smiled and looked down at Betsy's hand then back at Sean. "It sure has. You'd be surprised just how much things've changed."
Looking back at Betsy, she grinned and mouthed "good job," jerking her head toward Sean none too subtly.
((If I missed a question or something, stab me and I'll fix it once I get some steady pressure on the puncture wound.))

Scott was getting aggravated. < I'll be back down in my office when I finish ripping my heart out trying to console a sixteen year old girl who's just found out the only people she really trusts have been lying to her for a decade. That'll take a moment more. Stall her. >

The two girls were already walking away when Gambit replied. It hit her the moment he started talking that she'd completly missed the point of his first comment. That was strange! She always got his comments, he made sure of that. She was definantly out of sorts if she'd not gotten his comment! He fixed that though and jerked at her shirt none to sublty.
She turned to slap his hand away, but he was already gone following the girls. She fumed silently. The fire was already in her hand to fry him when she decided against it. The Red Guard and teacher's frying each other into crisps didn't go well together. She'd have to wait till after Rogue left. Ash quielty extinguished the flame and glared at Remy's back. She turned and headed back to the house, mumbling to herself about stupid cajuns. As if he would ever... EVER get her. Her face reddened at the thought. He would be winning a major battle if he did and she was absolutly too stubborn for that.
She realized as she stomped off that he had only said it to make her angry, and she had fallen for it. Well.. she could always excuse it because of the rough day. She wasn't thinking straight. If she had been she'd have said something back.. or... or somethign like that.
Oh dear... she needed some more coffee. Warren free this time.

<I'll be back down in my office when I finish ripping my heart out trying to console a sixteen year old girl who's just found out the only people she really trusts have been lying to her for a decade. That'll take a moment more. Stall her,> Scott said in a very snippy tone.
<I am stalling her, Scott,> Betsy snapped back, not appreciative of his tone with her. <We all warned you there would be days like this when you and Jean adopted the quints and it's not our fault that everyone decided to descend on us at the same time.>
She didn't even want to hear that reply so Betsy purposely shut down the mental connection with Scott just as his wife decided to make her own announcement. Luckily, Jean had more tact then Scott did. <Remind me to commend Anna on her good timing. Sean has taken Nathan down to the sub-level, and he’s there... now. Either Scott or I will meet with you both soon, once we’re done talking with the Cuckoos,> the redhead told her.
<Jean, that husband of yours is going to make me regret accepting Sean's proposal, I know he is,> Betsy vented to her best friend for a moment. Then she changed her own tone and added, <You believe he really is Nathan, don't you? Forgive me, dear, but I will have to see for myself although I completely trust you. Take care of your daughters, I'll deal with Anna. Besides, I have a feeling if I should fail to entertain her, Remy will be more then happy to take over,> Betsy added wryly.
She had not missed Remy's interest in their friend at all. And from what they had learned of all the Red Guard and their powers, Rogue had learned control over hers making a fling with the flirtatious Cajun quite possible. Oh, the irony to be had in that...
Looking at Anna as she continued to talk, Betsy nodded and replied, “Yep, the cop. Can you believe it? Took me about four years or so to even agree to date him seriously. He's had a good decade to convince me that I love him enough to give up my freedom. Just don't expect a wedding invitation anytime soon. I'll most likely procrastinate on that as well.” She said that last sentence with a wink and they started walking around the grounds, Anna's paperwork in hand.
Remy was following them and Betsy couldn't help “saying”, <Once we are done with the formalities, you are more then welcome to pounce, luv.> He was giving off quite the “Wow, you're hot” vibes and there was no way Betsy couldn't pick up on them. He'd given them to her in the past although he knew she was committed to Sean.
Speaking of...Sean came out just then and approached them. Apparently that meant he had taken care of Nathan and secured the lowest level. It really wasn't that between her and Jean they couldn't alter Anna's memories but it would be best if they didn't have to. Another powerful telepath who worked within the government may notice the tampering and they honestly couldn't afford that. But if it came down to it, she would tamper with her friend's mind, no matter the moral objections Scott would likely have.
“Hello, Anna. It's been a while since ye've been here,” Sean greeted Anna. Anna replied, "It sure has. You'd be surprised just how much things've changed." as she turned back to her and mouthed, Good job.
Betsy grinned. She knew Sean was handsome and the fact that he worked out everyday and spent a lot of time training the students certainly hadn't hurt his body at all. Besides, who wasn't a sucker for that classic red hair and sweet Irish accent, even if she was opposed to Sharon learning how to talk with it. Slipping out of Rogue's grasp for a second, Betsy leaned over and gave Sean a greeting kiss on his lips. “Can you believe that they finally sent Anna to do our inspection? I was beginning to think they were purposely keeping her from us, afraid we would try to lure her back with a teaching position,” Betsy teased.
As she talked, she mentally said to Sean, <Jean believes the boy to be Nathan but I am not convinced. Not until I see him for myself. How is Sharon? Also, I think Ash may need someone to talk to. She's upset about something and I wonder if it has to do with Sharon's revelation to us this morning. She was taking it pretty hard.>

Warren had been keeping track of everything from high in the sky. He watched as the group slowly broke apart and he noticed that Ash had slowly began to drift apart as she gave them more space. The somber mutant knew he had to speak to her about earlier and the thought simply filled him with dread, however something had to be done.
Warren waited for a few more moments and let Ash develop a little more space before he finally ducked his wings down and began a gentle descent. With an ease flaire of his wings he gently touched down several feet from her, he didnt want to startle her again.
"Ash" he said in a slightly nervous tone, "I really think we need to talk."

Ash had finally finished visualizing all the terrible and horrible deaths she could inflict upon the cajun when Warren landed in front of her. This time, she noticed, he was carefull to land a few yards away and slowly as to not startle her. Well at least she had gotten her message earlier, however cruel and mean it was. Still the site of him and the nervous determined look on his face filled her with dread. She knew exactly what he was here for. To chew her out, which she fully deserved. not yet! she thought, I haven't had my coffee yet.
He walked up to her and said quietly, " Ash.. I really think we need to talk" Yup. SHe knew it! He wanted to 'talk' just not here, in front of people. WEll Ash could respect that, and yest, they did need to talk... she just wished it wasn't now. Her day had already gone wrong too many times. She sighed and looked at him, ah well, she owed it to the man. In fact she owed it to him more now for coming to get her instead of avoiding her and havingher seek him out.
"Right." She said, "Not here... there's too many students, and the Red Guard." SHe nodded her head over to Besty and Rogue and... Gambit. She almost wished she was over there trading insults with the man rather than here. Why her? What had she ever done in her life time to deserve this... well besides killing a score of people when she was younger, but still that hadn't been her fault! Well... not really.
"Where do you want to go?"

"It sure has. You'd be surprised just how much things've changed." Sean just grinned at Anna's statement, she had no idea just how much things had changed at the mansion. Charles had still been alive when Anna had left. Then Betsy was giving him a quick kiss, which he returned.
“Can you believe that they finally sent Anna to do our inspection? I was beginning to think they were purposely keeping her from us, afraid we would try to lure her back with a teaching position,” Sean nodded at that, and Betsy contacted him telepathically simultaneously. It had taken years of being with telepaths for him to be able to follow two or more conversations at once.
<Jean believes the boy to be Nathan but I am not convinced. Not until I see him for myself. How is Sharon? Also, I think Ash may need someone to talk to. She's upset about something and I wonder if it has to do with Sharon's revelation to us this morning. She was taking it pretty hard.> Ash had taken it rough when she'd seen Sharon transform. He had almost forgotten that, in the midst of everything else.
"Aye, we could use more teachers, tha's for certain. I'm sure ye'd be a fine teacher Anna." Sean teased right back. And while answering Betsy's questions in his head, he managed to keep the grin on his face.
'Sharon was fine, and getting along. She seemed quite content ta stay in the war room with 'Nathan'. I did nae think tha' having a purple panther running around the school would be a good idea right now. Nae with all the chaos. Ash was pretty flustered earlier, but one of us can talk ta her later. She seems busy with Remy and Warren now. I see ye are still wearin' the ring, has anyone noticed yet?' Sean didn't want to let the "cat" out of the bag, but if they already knew. . . Sean reached out to hold Betsy's free hand.

[Cross-posted with "Cyclops and Phoenix's Administrative Offices"]
A heavy wave of annoyance flushed through her mind as Betsy’s voice sounded, <Jean, that husband of yours is going to make me regret accepting Sean's proposal, I know he is.> Jean had to pause in her conversation with the girls for a moment. Proposal? Sean proposed?! Scott could get under people's skin every now and again (Jean's too, at times) so Jean didn't bring up the irritation in Betsy's voice for a much bigger topic that needed to be addressed.
< Betsy! Sean proposed?! When?! And why didn’t you tell me when it happened? > Jean’s voice was mock-hurt before musing, < No wonder he felt as happy as a clam when I contacted him earlier. > But Jean was pleasantly surprised. It was only a matter of time before Sean wore Betsy down. Jean could see them married a few years ago if Betsy weren’t so set in her ways. < Guess I won’t be the only girl in the Wives’ Club anymore. > Jean teased her best friend, temporarily putting aside her stress for a moment about Nathan and the girls.
Betsy’s tone changed, a careful edge to it, <You believe he really is Nathan, don't you? Forgive me, dear, but I will have to see for myself although I completely trust you. Take care of your daughters, I'll deal with Anna. Besides, I have a feeling if I should fail to entertain her, Remy will be more then happy to take over.> Jean frowned slightly. She knew her son. It bothered her that Betsy felt she couldn’t trust her.
< The DNA test will show us if he is or isn’t scientifically, but Betsy, I know it’s him. Call it mother’s intuition if you want. If it’s not him—well, then we’ll deal with it if it happens. > But it wouldn’t. Unless someone had cloned their son, and it was entirely possible, then the boy in the lower levels was indeed him. Jean didn’t want to get into a heavy debate about it though. If Betsy needed scientific proof, then so be it.
< Watch out for Remy. He’ll have her wined and dined within the hour if no one’s there to keep an eye on him. > Jean replied a bit wryly before going on, < Scott and I will be in our office with the girls. Feel free to bring Anna on over whenever you’re ready. > Finishing her thought Jean placed her attention back to the girls, still wondering about Esme and if she’d revealed anything bothering her to her sisters.

Where do you want to go?
Ash's voice sounded tired and it seemed like she really wanted to wait for another time. However Warren really needed to speak to Ash and didnt want these unpleasent feelings between the two of them. Judging by the look on her face she really needed to relax and Warren had the perfect answer for that.
"That depends, do you trust me?"
Before she could answer Warren walked forward and wrapped his arms around her waist, making sure to keep them from 'forbidden' zones as much as possible.
"Relax" he told her as his metallic wings began to gently flap, slowly at first and then more forcefully as the additional weight and slower pace but somewhat more strain on them. Warren was used to giving a single powerful flap to shoot into the sky but knew that with how high strung Ash was that was probably not the best idea. The two of them steadily climbed higher and higher.

"That Depends" Well that was an interesting thing to say, Ash frowned and then before she could ask on what he answered her. "Do you trust me?" Her eye brows shot up. Why would she need to trust him. He was the one who had said he didn't trust her... she was supposed to be asking for his trust, not the other way around! Why would he ask that... that was like the question Aladin asked Jasmine before taking her on his flying carpet... But that didn't make sense. Warren walked foreward before she could do anything and wrapped his arms around her waist.
Oh God...
"Relax"
Ash looked up at him, eyes wide. Relax?! His wings began to flap and it sort of jump started her brain into working. "Warren I really..." Their feet left the ground and Ash's hands that had been glued to her sides found themselves myseriously around Warren's neck... holding on for dear life. She felt no shame in the closeness of their bodies, or even a thought to what this might mean for Warren. All she cared about, was not falling. Ash looked down as the ground slowly got farther away, "Maybe.. we should talk... about this...?" She wasn't sure why she had said that, it was too late now, they were already high in the sky.
She looked up at Warren and said very meekly, "Um... ok... I guess I trust you." just please don't drop me! I'm too young to die! Ash giggled quietly at that thought. It was that sappy line you heard everywhere. Oh this was so strange! She was never ever going to say "what else could go wrong" again... ever. Because everythign could. Not that flying was wrong, but it definantly wasn't normal. And flying with a guy that you had not five minutes earlier chewed out for nothing at all, was even weirder. As they got higher Ash looked around, well this was a pretty view. In fact... flying didn't seem so bad... once you got used to it. It was better than being in that stupid jet or a closed room. Among her many dislikes, Ash was also claustrophobic.
"So... besides up... where are you taking me?" Suddenly she was very glad she was not wearing a skirt because she had just seen the group she had just left below them... including Gambit. Well, at least she had gotten away from him.

Yeah, Ash definitely got the point that time. She tried to slap at his hand but Remy was just too quick for the girl. Too bad it turned out to be a shallow victory. She didn’t even fight back, just walked away. Come to think of it, she was out of sorts for pretty much the whole time they were outside. Maybe he should have just let her be. The whole point to their game was fun. If they weren’t having fun, it was just mean. That certainly wasn’t his intention. He liked Ash, actually, he liked most of the people at the mansion. That’s why he stuck around.
<Once we are done with the formalities, you are more then welcome to pounce, luv.> Betsy interrupted his thoughts. Remy chuckled internally before replying < Dat’s Okay, Cher. I like de view from back here. > It really was nice. Rogue’s and Betsy’s butts swaying from side to side in unison. < How close are you two, anyway, > he asked, jokingly. Betsy surely knew what he was getting at. If Ash wasn’t in the mood to play, he’d have to move on to the next target, at least until it was time to pounce.

“Can you believe that they finally sent Anna to do our inspection? I was beginning to think they were purposely keeping her from us, afraid we would try to lure her back with a teaching position.” She grinned, nodding. "They don't like havin' their people commandeered by other schools. That, or they thought Ah'd just pass y'all on everything without checking and go out drinking."
More lies, but she wasn't about to admit to them just how nervous she'd been about coming back, about seeing everyone again. Or worse- not seeing someone. So far, though, it was looking good. "Aye, we could use more teachers, tha's for certain. I'm sure ye'd be a fine teacher Anna." She shrugged. "Ah teach a couple of classes at the Academy. None of the kids've died yet so Ah'm assuming that's a good sign."
She glanced up as Warren flew back toward them, landing in front of Ash, who'd started to walk away. Frowning, she raised an eyebrow at Betsy. "Speaking of kids dying... isn't he supposed to be teaching flight class? Ah'm gonna have to take off points for every kid Ah find bloodied on the ground from a rough, unsupervised landing."
She paused, looking over the grounds. They were much the same as they had been when she was a student, save for the occasional repositioned bush. But overall, the grounds were as immaculate as they'd been before. Looking down, she jotted down a note on the form. "Looks good out here."
She nodded, tucking the clipboard under her arm. She'd have to sit in on a few classes, probably meet with a few members of the faculty individually and of course make sure the training areas were all up to code, but she had a feeling that it was going to be a rather uneventful inspection. Which left more time for her to visit with her friends. Betsy was getting married. Betsy was getting married.
She shook her head, smiling. Betsy. Getting married. To the Irish cop. Sean. Sean Cassidy, with the "voice that can shatter just about anything." She stopped dead, a sudden realization hitting her. What were the odds of there being two Irish mutants with similar powers, facial features, and last names? Okay. Not last names. Not exactly, anyway. Tom's name was Cassidy. Terry's was Rourke. But there could be a way to explain that. Not that it was really any of her business. She started walking again, glancing up at Sean. "So, Sean. You got any family?"

Sean returned her kiss then chatted a bit with Anna. Mentally, he answered her, <Sharon was fine, and getting along. I see ye are still wearin' the ring, has anyone noticed yet?>
Betsy blinked at her lover, hoping and praying she did not just hear him correctly. <You left Sharon where and with whom? Sean, we haven't have a chance to tell the others about our discovery regarding Sharon yet and you left her with a boy who may or may not be Scott and Jean's son? I hope you at least warned him that she could possibly morph.> Then something else dawned on her. <Sean, if she morphs into a human from panther, she'll be naked.>
It took all of Betsy's willpower to not march into the War Room herself and protect Sharon from the boy. Instead, she sent Sharon a little message, <Sharon, luv, please try to stay in cat form until Sean or I can come for you.> She knew the girl wouldn't have any idea why but hoped she would do as Betsy asked anyway.
Glancing back to where Ash was standing she watched as Warren landed near the other woman and spoke to her. Nervousness washed over Ash, especially when Warren wrapped an arm around her waist and whisked her away. "Speaking of kids dying... isn't he supposed to be teaching flight class? Ah'm gonna have to take off points for every kid Ah find bloodied on the ground from a rough, unsupervised landing,” Rogue said, breaking into Betsy's thoughts.
Betsy sighed inwardly and replied with a superficial grin, “I have a feeling the kids left him behind.” To Warren, she added, <You need to be more careful. Rogue wants to know where your flight class is.>
She toyed with the ring on her finger, not used to the weight as she normally didn't wear jewelry, and replied to Sean, <I forgot to take it off and everyone out here saw it. So much for keeping it a secret. Oh, and Jean knows now as well.>
Speaking of Jean...<Betsy! Sean proposed?! When?! And why didn’t you tell me when it happened? No wonder he felt as happy as a clam when I contacted him earlier. Guess I won’t be the only girl in the Wives’ Club anymore,> her best friend teased her.
Giving a mock sigh mentally, she replied, <Just a little while ago in the kitchen, of all the romantic places.> The last was said sarcastically. Then Betsy added, <Don't count on a wedding any time soon, Jean. I'm in no hurry to actually go through with it. Especially after I tell you the other news we have but that can wait for now. It's more of a 'you'll have to see it to believe it' sort of thing.>
Betsy could feel Jean's hurt at her caution regarding Nathan but Jean said, <The DNA test will show us if he is or isn’t scientifically, but Betsy, I know it’s him. Call it mother's intuition if you want. If it’s not him—well, then we’ll deal with it if it happens.>
She wished she were physically next to her friend right now so she could gather her in a hug. <I believe you, luv. I really do and remember, he felt like Nathan to me as well but call me pessimistic. I have yet to see the child face to face and look into his eyes, so to speak. I just worry for you and Scott and don't want anything more to hurt you,> Betsy tried to reassure her. She wanted desperately to believe Jean.
Jean changed the subject to Remy and said, <Watch out for Remy. He’ll have her wined and dined within the hour if no one’s there to keep an eye on him. Scott and I will be in our office with the girls. Feel free to bring Anna on over whenever you’re ready.>
<I think it could actually work out to our advantage if Remy did wine and dine Anna. She'd be too busy to pay too close attention to the school,> Betsy said wryly. <As soon as Anna is done out here, we'll be inside. She's grown up, Jean, but she is still the same Anna. Once the formalities are out of the way, this could actually be fun.>
The link to Jean gave way to a laugh from Remy in her head as he said, <Dat’s Okay, Cher. I like de view from back here. How close are you two, anyway?>
Betsy returned the laugh and replied, <Darling, look all you want. If you had shown up in my life sooner, you could have seen even more. As for Anna and I, how's this to hold you over?> With that, Betsy sent him a very risque image of exactly what he was asking about. She was grateful that neither Sean nor Anna would have a clue what her and Remy were discussing.
Anna said, "Looks good out here." Then she tucked the clipboard under her arm and turned to her and Sean. Betsy could see Remy still trying to watch Anna's backside and had a hard time not laughing out loud. "So, Sean. You got any family?" Anna asked Sean.
Betsy looked over at him and wondered how he was going to answer that. She knew all about his cousin and the rift in their relationship. She'd even tried to encourage him to seek Tom out and repair the damage but Sean always put it off.
