"I thought you said you were a student here?" the kid pointed out. "How does she know anything thats going on around the place? She's nosy."
Chamber snorted mentally. Of course she was nosy. She had to be, to keep ahead of the game. “Not that I really blame her. You don't want to be taken by surprise by something like this,” Rusty added.
<No, you don't,> he had to agree grimly. He watched the protesters and supporters continue to shout and chant and press the limits of the police barriers keeping them separated. He shakes his head again. <What a blinkin' mess.>
He sighed mentally and then glanced over at the kid. He hadn't seemed too surprised by Jono's telepathy and was just as shocked as he had been by the new broadcast. He guessed that Rusty was a mutant too, but it was better not to jump to conclusion. <So, I'm going to take a shot in the dark here, and guess you're a mutant too?> he suggested, trying to sound casual.
<Sorry for the facade. Part of the reason I left.> Jono explained. <Pretending you can't talk is a bloody great pain in the arse. I didn't know who you were, and I didn't want to chance scaring the wits out of some poor baseline kid who's ruddy parents left him here for the holiday. I just kind of fell back into it, for the sake of the school.>

<So, I'm going to take a shot in the dark here, and guess you're a mutant too?> The guy's voice rang in Rusty's head.
"Bingo." He replied. "I don't know how many there were when you were here but there's a few more upstairs now, lazing around."

"Some mutations," he said eloquently, "suck." Finishing his bread, he asked "If you don't mind me being nosy, what exactly is your mutation?"

She walked into the kitchen, silent as possible, and leapt up onto the counter. Being in cat form, she was able to take some liberties with the way that she acted in public. Standing on tables was one of the things that she'd found that she could get away with relatively easily. Unfortunately, though, cats had a harder time getting food that was in a can or inside a refrigerator, without the aid of opposable thumbs, so she jumped down and morphed back into human form, not really noticing that she was naked. She went about her business, pouring a glass of milk and making herself a bagel, then sat down at the table and watched the boys.

"Some mutations," Rusty told him flatly "suck." After he'd finished with his bread, he looked at Jono curiously. "If you don't mind me being nosy, what exactly is your mutation?"
You don't know the half of it kid, Chamber thought bitterly. He reached for the top of the turtle neck and the bandages when he noticed the purple cat stalk in and leap up onto the counter. She looked at the refrigerator for a heartbeat, then jumped down, transforming into her human form. She began to make herself breakfast, completely naked.
Jono shook his head, chuckling mentally. <Morning, sunshine,> he greeted her. His dark eyes swept over her a heartbeat. Then he turned his attention back to Rusty and pulled down the turtleneck, loosening the bandages underneath. A gout of red-orange flames burst from where his chin and mouth should be. <This,> he told the kid, then recovered the psionic inferno.
He looked at Sharon again and let out a mental sigh. Slipping off the sweater he was wearing, he crossed to her and tapped her on the shoulder. <Here, kitten, put this on,> he suggested gently, only to her. <Before you give the poor bloke there a problem he won't have time to deal with.> Humor tinged his mental voice, as he laid the sweater on the counter.
He rewrapped the bandages around his lower face, hiding the flames. His shirt off, they could see his entire torso from his navel up was wrapped in bandages as well as his face and neck. He turned his attention back to Rusty. <What's yours, kid?> he asked.

Jono was reaching for his bandages when a small purple cat that Rusty recognized wandered in. Sharon jumped onto the bench, then shortly after, was comletely naked.
Rusty blushed a little at that. He'd never gotten used to Sharon's lack of self consciousness. "Good morning Sharon." He said politely.
Thankfully, before Rusty's mouth ran away with him, Jono pulled his turtleneck down and unwrapped a bunch of bandages, revealing what looked like a furnace. Red-orange flames spouted out and Rusty stared in fascination.
<This,> was all Jono said and Rusty nodded mutely.
He wans't paying attention to what Jono was doing but he was staring at his chest. At the fire.
<What's yours, kid?> Jono's voice asked, breaking Rusty from his reprieve.
"Oh, nothing so...dramatic." Rusty replied, voice distant. "I wonder...well anyway, I do fire." He finished, pulling his customary finger-gun trick. He was really wondering, if that was actaul fire in Jono's chest, would he be able to use it?

She smiled as both Jono and Rusty greeted her. "Good morning, Jono and Fireboy."
She went back to her toast, jumping a little bit as she felt Jono tap her. Turning, she cocked her head slightly when he spoke to her, but complied. The shirt was fairly large on her, but it was warm and it smelled nice. She rubbed the fabric against her face, smiling, then turned back to Jono, her head once again tilted. "What did you mean?"

Jono glanced over as a small gout of flame burst from the end of Rusty's finger. A pyrokinetic. Not a terribly unusual mutation. He nodded to the kid, realizing he was staring at him, namely the flames seeping from the bandages while he rewrapped them. < They're not actual fire, mate,> he said, wondering if that was what the kid was thinking. < You can put your hand in it and you won't get it crisped or anything. >
Sharon put on the sweater, rubbing it against her cheek. Jono swore he could almost hear her purring. She looked at him curiously. "What did you mean?"
Chamber let out a mental chuckle and shook his head. He was surprised Emma had not taught this girl about that sort of thing, especially with her tendency to wander around naked. < Well, let's just say that pretty gels like you running around without a stitch of clothes is hard on us blokes, > he replied. Realizing that explained little, he shrugged. < Ask Mum, sunshine, she'll be able to explain it better. > He was amused at the thought of such a conversation, although he doubted the question would phase the White Queen. She might be cross with him, but he figured Sharon deserved fair warning. Most of his gender were as bad as rutting animals and a naive girl like Catseye could get hurt without knowing that.
He decided to change the subject. < Speaking of her, > he said idly. < I wonder what's keeping her. It's getting rather late and she seemed in a bloody hurry to go to New York last night. >

< They're not actual fire, mate,> he said, wondering if that was what the kid was thinking. < You can put your hand in it and you won't get it crisped or anything. >
Rusty blushed again, wondering if he'd been that transparent. Then, realising he was talking to a telepath who probably spent most of his time pretending he couldn't talk, he revised his estimate, a little.
"What did you mean?" Sharon asked quietly and Rusty chuckled again. Jono agreed with him, letting loose with a mental laugh of his own
< Well, let's just say that pretty gels like you running around without a stitch of clothes is hard on us blokes, > he replied. Realizing that explained little, he shrugged. < Ask Mum, sunshine, she'll be able to explain it better. > Mum? Rusty wondered, deliberately avoiding the topic of Sharon with no clothes on. Or Ms. Frost explaining to Sharon why she should be wearing clothes. Jono couldn't be...no, it must just be some English thing, Rusty decided. Jono was too old and Ms. Frost was...Ms. Frost.
< Speaking of her, > he said idly. < I wonder what's keeping her. It's getting rather late and she seemed in a bloody hurry to go to New York last night. >
"Yeah, I can understand why." Rusty said, turning back to the tv. The report had changed but he could still see the protestors demanding the Mutant Registration Act be emplaced immediately. Shaking his head a little, he turned around. "Maybe something's happened that we don't know about yet." He suggested, not really believing it yet. Anything that happened and the press would be all over it.
"Maybe," he began slowly, "we should just go an ask her?"

"Yeah, I can understand why." Rusty said, his attention on the tele. The news reporter had moved on to a new story, but the scene of protesters was still going on silently in the background. "Maybe something's happened that we don't know about yet.” He looked at Jono. "Maybe, we should just go an ask her?"
Chamber thought about this for a moment. < Good idea, mate, > he agreed. He could probably just telepathically ask her from here, but he had a feeling she was protecting the students from the news, not wanting it spoil their holiday. He shook his head. < I'll go talk to her. That way you and kitten can finish getting ready. I have a feeling that bleedin' news broadcast might make her in even more of bloody hurry. > He shrugged. < I don't eat and all I need to do is put another blinkin' shirt on. >
He started towards the door, determined to find out exactly what the White Queen was up to. He wasn't a kid anymore and could deal take care of himself. But if she needed his help with the students, all she bloody well needed to do was ask.

As Jono headed off to talk to Ms. Frost about when they were going to leave, Rusty turned to Sharon.
"If you want to bring anything with you, you might want to go and get it." He suggested quickly. God and Ms. Frost alone probably knew if she wanted to bring anything but, shivering faintly, Rusty knew that he had to at least put on some more clothes. "I, on the other hand, am going to go and finish getting dressed."
Closing the fridge and putting his cup in the sink, Rusty headed back upstairs to the kitchen.

She jumped a little bit as Jono sent her a telepathic message to get ready to go. She dumped all of her dishes in the sink and headed towards the door, stopping when she remembered that she was told to get dressed. Turning, she headed back to her room.
