The back yard is very spacious, with trees, a lake, and plenty of space for outdoor sports.

Archangel said good bye to his students after the last of them had landed, some gracefully and some not so, and remarked to some of them how far they had come along since their first class. Archangel gave a nod and a smile as one of his students waved goodbye and told him that next time she would catch him.
When the last of the students left Archangel looked down at his wrist to see what time it was. He grimaced slightly when he noticed that his class had run late again but when it came to flying he simply had a difficult time stopping and returning back to the earth, especially when his students begged him if they could stay up there for 'just a few more minutes'. After he mentally checked his schedule Archangel realized that he had an hour before his philosophy class. With a turn and a leap he was airborne once again; his metallic wings caught stray beams of sunlight and glittered in the afternoon sky.
After a few moments of climbing Warren dipped his wings and leveled off. He was high in the sky and could see almost the entire ground. With a slight twist in his metallic wings Warren caught a thermal updraft and simply hovered there for a few moments as he enjoyed the view for several moments.

After a few more minutes as he hovered there brought a sense of joy. However like all things Archangel knew that this moment wouldnt last forever. Archangel knew that all work and no play would make him a dull boy.
Warren pulled his wings back and dived straight for the ground. The air whipped past his face as Warren got closer and closer to the ground before his wings spread open at the last moment! A cloud of dust shot up from the earth as Archangel flew mere inches above the ground. He zipped past two students so close that the red hat on one of them ripped free from the student's head! With another twist he was parellel with the side of the mansion as he rocketed back up into the sky.
As soon as Warren reached the roof his wings folded into his back as he landed softly onto the roof. He watched the students as they moved back and forth to and from class before he walked over and dropped down to his balcony to change and get ready for his philosophy class.

Kitty finished up with her online college course that she was able to do via the internet and submitted her assignment through email. She had been taking these online classes for the last year and a half and they were the only thing that really challenged her academically in the entire school. She had half considered moving from Xavier's and enrolling in a “regular” college somewhere and really, the only thing holding her back was the fact that she was still learning what she could do with her powers. Every now and then, the headaches would start again and she would lose control over what she was phasing.
Her advisers had insisted that it was because her body was still changing physically and her mutation was changing right along with it. Whatever the reason, it was quite annoying and humiliating on occasion. Like the time she accidentally phased right out of her clothes while walking through the recreation room. She couldn't get out of there fast enough. With a sigh, Kitty pushed away from the computer and logged out, leaving it available for anyone else to use. Glancing outside, she saw it was a beautiful day so she grabbed her book and phased through the wall of the computer lab, walking delicately on air particles as she made her way from the second story room to the grass below.
With absolutely no clue of the chaos ensuing at the front door, Kitty found a little shady area under a large oak tree and sat down with her back pressed against the solid trunk. Opening her book, she was able to easily drown out the sounds of the other students and concentrate on the words that spilled across the page. In no time, she was completely immersed in the novel.

A loud and somewhat unruly group of students walked up to the back gate, lead by their non-chalant teacher, Remy LeBeau. He was often the most lenient teacher when it came to behavior, which is probably why he was so well liked. Really, he just saw it differently than the other teachers. Hell, he was worse than any of these kids at their age and look at him now. He was a role model, as funny as that sounded to him.
Once inside the gates, Gambit dismissed class and the group began to disperse into the yard. Gambit watched for a few minutes as the kids interacted. They had it so easy. They got to grow up in a time when being a mutant was a good thing. They didn't have a shady past to run from. The worst that ever happened to them was a bad grade. Oh well, not like he could change it now, nor did he want to. For all that had happened to him, there was a lot of good times too. Remy wasn't usually one to reflect on his life anyway.
Remy was about to go inside when he saw the institute's star student, Kitty pryde, sitting against a tree with a book. She looked out of place surrounded by all these active students. But that's what those smart kids did, wasn't it? They read a lot. Remy wasn't a book person. He preferred to go out and 'do' instead of reading about people who 'did.' Slowly a smile spread across his face as he walked up to the girl. Reaching down, he pulled the book from her hands and started going through the pages, then turned it upside down as if looking for something in the pages. "Wha'chu got in here? Cosmo? Teen Beat? Penthouse? I know you hidin' sometin', Pryde." As he manhandled her book, Remy was careful to keep her place, although it was hard to notice unless watched closely. He knew he was probably about to get an earful from the girl, but it wouldn't be the first time someone yelled at him.

Kitty was completely absorbed in her book and didn't even hear the noisy, rambunctious students that were coming back from a field trip. The novel was good although it was one she had read before. Still, Kitty had discovered at a very young age that if you read the same book more then once, you always found something else you hadn't noticed before. With the extensive library that was available to her here, she doubted she would run out of books before graduation. She had even found an original copy of Charles Darwin's “Origin of the Species” and considering she was currently living in a school for mutants, it was a most fascinating read. She had been extremely careful with the worn pages and she wondered who had taken such great care of the book for it to still be around.
Suddenly, a hand reached down and snagged the slightly worn copy of “The Scarlet Letter” out of her hands. Stunned, Kitty looked up to see Mr. LeBeau sifting through the pages of her book. "Wha'chu got in here? Cosmo? Teen Beat? Penthouse? I know you hidin' sometin', Pryde,” he asked, turning the book upside down and waiting for some silly bit of magazine fluff to come spilling out.
How could he treat a book like that? It was almost sacrilegious in her mind. And they let this guy teach? She could probably educate his students better then he could. Kitty stood up and calmly reached out her hand. “You will not find issues of Cosmo or....Penthouse,” she said the second title with a slight blush on her cheeks. She knew quite well the kind of magazine that Penthouse was, “in there. I happen to actually be reading the book.”
With her hand stretched out, she waited slightly impatiently for him to return it to her and she added, “Tell me, Mr. LeBeau, have you ever read 'The Scarlet Letter'?” She still wondered what on earth Mr. Summers was thinking when they made Mr. LeBeau a teacher. She had her theories and they all centered around Ms. Braddock whom Kitty had caught staring at the red-eyed mutant a few times when she didn't think anyone was looking. Then again, Kitty highly doubted that Ms. Braddock cared who saw her staring.

Not a thing. Remy went to all the trouble to annoy the young student and she didn’t do anything. Why did the smart kids always let him down? Her cheeks did flare when she realized he accused her of reading penthouse though. At least he got that. Remy finally conceded and gave the book back, on the same page she was reading. It was a weak victory but a victory none the less.
“Tell me, Mr. LeBeau, have you ever read 'The Scarlet Letter'?” Remy raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t read the book but was familiar with the concept. What an interesting coincidence? He was sure Kitty was smart enough to figure out he wasn’t a normal teacher. “Non, but Remy hung out wit’ a few writers. Dey usually got good stories.” Remy had met all kinds of people since leaving Louisiana. Some of them weren’t women, but they had to be very interesting to get his attention away from the women. Sitting down against the tree beside Kitty, he said “One night, Remy was drinkin’ with dis old guy, Kurt Vonne...Vonne-sometin. He was tellin me his theories ‘bout mutants when someone ask him to sign a book. He sat dere all night an’ never told Remy he was famous. Cool guy.”

Mr. LeBeau looked vastly disappointed, either at her not hiding any “incriminating evidence” or something else, she wasn't sure. Nonetheless, her book was back in her hands and that was all that mattered. If he had held onto it much longer, especially with the way he was manhandling it, she would have phased it through his hands for him. “Non, but Remy hung out wit’ a few writers. Dey usually got good stories,” he told her, like it explained something important.
Kitty really had to struggle to keep from rolling her eyes. Mr. LeBeau thought that by hanging out with authors would somehow make up for not reading like most teachers here did. At least they had some teaching credentials. Kitty had to wonder if Mr. LeBeau had anything going for him other then charm and good looks. However, he was still technically a teacher so she held her tongue. “One night, Remy was drinkin’ with dis old guy, Kurt Vonne...Vonne-sometin. He was tellin me his theories ‘bout mutants when someone ask him to sign a book. He sat dere all night an’ never told Remy he was famous. Cool guy,” he added.
Frowning slightly, Kitty asked, “Do you always refer to yourself in the third person?” If so, it made her glad she had none of his classes. That would get on her nerves in no time. Then she thought about what else he said. “Are you telling me that you met and held a conversation with Kurt Vonnegut? That's surprising,” she said before thinking about it. Realizing what she had just said, Kitty quickly covered it up by adding, “I read Cat's Cradle a few years ago. It was fascinating and I've been meaning to look up some of his more recent works but haven't had time yet.”

“Do you always refer to yourself in the third person?” Remy chuckled at the question. She was actually the first person to call him on that since he’d arrived. He usually didn’t do it when around new(or snotty) people but no one seemed to care until now. Except maybe Ash, but he’d just do it even more to bother her if she did complain. “Usually, you da first person ta complain in months. I‘ll try ta keep it in check. Look, I‘m already doin‘ better.”
After a few more seconds, kitty said “Are you telling me that you meant and held a conversation with Kurt Vonnegut? That's surprising,” Vonnegut, that was his name! Wait, did she really just say that. For a moment, Remy cast her an astonished look out of the corner of his eye. He may not have been book smart but at least he had some people skills, unlike the brain child over here.
Quickly changing her tune, Kitty added“I read Cat's Cradle a few years ago. It was fascinating and I've been meaning to look up some of his more recent works but haven't had time yet,” Well, at least she realized she had messed up. Still someone needed to knock this kid down a few pegs. Her little superiority complex was getting on his nerves just as much as speaking in third person did for her, if not more. “Never heard of it, and Remy got along wit’ Kurt real well. He was a nice down ta earth kind a guy.” Yeah, it was an extremely back handed insult, but he doubted Smarty would miss it.

“Never heard of it, and Remy got along wit’ Kurt real well. He was a nice down ta earth kind a guy,” Mr. LeBeau replied, rather defensively.
Kitty involuntarily winced. She'd done it again. One of these days, she was going to get kicked out of the school for not thinking about things before she said them. Especially to a teacher. “I'm sorry, Mr. LeBeau,” she said to him without looking him in the eyes. Apologizing was never easy for her but she really didn't know if he would say something to Ms. Braddock or even Mr. Summers. This was the only school where she'd ever fit in and the last thing she needed was to find herself out on the street.
“My mom says that I never learned how to talk to other people because I was always reading. What she didn't realize was that it was hard to talk to kids my own age because most of what they had to say was too childish and talking to kids older then me was out because they didn't like someone younger holding a conversation with them. That's what I like about this school. I can be by myself and none of the other students are going to expect me to talk to them. Well, that and my mom isn't asking me why I'm sitting at home on Saturday night,” Kitty said. Why she had just said that to him, of all people, was beyond her. She was more comfortable with the other teachers then him so why did she tell him something she hadn't told anyone else?
Rather embarrassed by the subject, Kitty floundered until she got back on track with what they had been discussing before her screw up. “Tell me what Mr. Vonnegut was like. Have you seen him since then? Maybe Mr. Summers can line him up to speak at graduation in the spring or something.” Okay, even Kitty had to admit she was rambling on at this point.

"I'm sorry, Mr. LeBeau," It didn't take Kitty long to get the hint, although Remy wasn't fishing for an apology. His intention was to fix the girl's attitude problem, not that he really believed it would be so easy. He had enough experience with women to figure out a few of their actions. Kitty was probably just trying to get out of trouble, which she wouldn't get from Remy anyway. Short of killing another student, he wasn't going to report any misconduct to Scott or Jean. He much preferred to take care of it on his own.
Then Kitty just started talking and talking and talking. Remy quickly changed his mind about the girl. She didn't need anymore humility, she needed human contact. Apparently, she spent so much time in her books that she didn't know how to interact with anyone. He could do something about that. You want a teacher to ‘teach,’ go to Sean or Ororo. You want a teacher to make you the life of the party, go to Remy.
“Tell me what Mr. Vonnegut was like. Have you seen him since then? Maybe Mr. Summers can line him up to speak at graduation in the spring or something.” Huh? Oh yeah, Kurt Vonnegut. “Non, we just hung out for a few hours, den Remy had to go...” He drifted off. Gambit was paying so little attention almost finished the sentence by saying ‘seduce a woman so he didn’t sleep in an alley.’ “Look, Don’t you t‘ink mebbe you should be minglin’ a little? You don’ get lonely?“ It really was a foreign concept to him. He liked being the center of attention. If not that, he at least wanted to be noticed, which seemed to be the opposite of what Kitty wanted.

Mr. LeBeau didn't seem at all amused by her rattling and honestly, Kitty wished the ground would just open up and swallow her. Oh, wait, it could, in a way....Pushing the thought of an easy escape aside because phasing through dirt was quite unpleasant, Mr. LeBeau replied, “Non, we just hung out for a few hours, den Remy had to go...”
Kitty quirked an eyebrow at him and didn't even want to know what “Remy” had to go do. Whatever it was, it was probably tasteless and although her studies both in books and on the internet had made her somewhat less innocent then most people would believe, there were still things she didn't want to talk to a teacher about. Then Mr. LeBeau gave her a funny look, a look she had seen her mother give her several times before.
Oh, no, he was not, not, going to suggest what she thought he was about to say. Please, please, please make him not say it. “Look, Don’t you t‘ink mebbe you should be minglin’ a little? You don’ get lonely?“ Mr. LeBeau asked her.
She let out a small sigh. It wasn't quite as bad as she was prepared for, definitely nothing like her mother was always asking her. “Lonely?” she asked quietly. Of course she got lonely but the few friends she had managed to make all had to go off to other schools for one reason or another. After losing a few of them, she just decided that it was easier to just keep to herself. Much less heartache that way. “Sometimes,” she admitted, “but it's not as horrible as you are thinking. I'm sort of used to it by now.”
Kitty thought about “minglin'”, as he had put it, and she almost panicked. The thought of mingling brought up thoughts of dates and dances and there was no way she could do either. She loved to dance, had been dancing most of her life, but not with others. The kind of dancing she did was for crowds, not standing close to someone. Most of the girls in the school were nice enough but not the kind of girl she could share secrets with or giggle about boys to. Not that she ever giggled about anything, Kitty told herself. No, there was just no one she felt comfortable enough around to try this “minglin'” stuff that Mr. LeBeau was talking about.

((Enter Rogue and Magik(with permission) from Limbo))
"Yes, well, had you actually seemed to enjoy yourself here, I'd have to recommend that your mother have your head examined." She rolled her eyes. "Right, like she hasn't already tried that." "Actually, I believe this is probably a very good time for us to depart. Whenever you're ready." Looking around, she nodded. She was definitely ready. "Now would be great."
Soon, they were standing in the familiar backyard of the Institute. Some of the plants were different, but otherwise, it looked eerily similar to the way it had been all those years ago. Sighing, she hoisted her bag onto her shoulder, looking over the yard and trying to figure out if she knew any of the people within eyesight. Nope... definitely didn't. Turning to Illyana, she smiled. "Thanks, girl. Ah owe you one."
Looking back at the mansion, she started toward the two people out in the yard. A man and a woman. Approaching them, she waved. "Hey. Ah'm here from Genosha, time for the school's little government check up... is the headmaster around?"

{Enters from the Kitchen}
Warren was still wrapped up in his inner turmoil as he made his way outside. As he entered the backyard he saw Rogue as she emerged from Limbo with Magik. He stiffened slightly, these government inspections automatically made him stiffen somewhat. This was the times during the year that always made him nervous. She had approached Gambit and Shadowcat and began to speak with them.
Hey. Ah'm here from Genosha, time for the school's little government check up... is the headmaster around?
Warren was sure Gambit could have handled the situation just fine but this was very serious and he wasn't willing to leave anything to chance. He immdeatly walked over and offered her his hand in a friendly gesture.
"Welcome to the Xavier Institue. I'm Warren, unfortunately our headmaster is currently bust but if you would come with me I'm sure we can go get this inspection started Miss...?"
Warren waited to find the woman's name and to see her demeanor towards the school.

The door swung shut as she walked quickly out after Warren. She didn't know if she would catch him before he flew off somewhere, or just walked out of site, but she had to try. There was no not trying this time. It was her fault he was angry and she had to apologize before something even worse came out of this. What could be worse than what had already happened today, she didn't know, but she didn't want to find out either.
Ash walked quickly out into the lawn, looking all around her, at the people, in the sky, on the roof, but she didn't see him. wonderful she thought, Now i'm going to be lectured on not fighting with my team mates, or worse I'll have to deal with him angry. She sighed angrily as she walked over to a group of people, not really looking at who they were. She just wanted to ask them if they'd seen Warren go by. They pointed to another group and she could just make out his wings.
She bagan to walk over, fully intent on asking him to talk privatly when she saw someone else. Yes, it was her lucky day. There was Gambit. Just the person she needed to run into. Now she could have him rake her up and down with his sarcastic comments. She was definantly not in the mood for that, so instead of saying anything she glared at him, daring him to say a word to her that might even come across as anything but polite. Warren was talking to one of the two other people, but Ash couldn't quite catch what he said. As she walked up next to them her gaze moved to the other two. The first girl didn't interest her much. It was some student probably, but at the site of the woman she froze. The first clue was the uniform. What the hell was she doing here? Had Scott forgotten to inform them of something very importent, such as a SHEILD infiltration? Then Ash took in the face and streaked hair.
There was only one person with hair like that that Ash had ever seen in her life, and she had seen many many people. For the third time that day she paled. This time at least it was a slight pale since it came from more of a pleasent surprise shock, than the unpleasent ones of earlier. "R..Rogue?" It had been a very long time since Ash had seen this girl, a very very long time. When she had seen her they hadn't talked much. Ash was still very reclusive and since the two weren't the same age or anything, they hadn't had many excuses to socialize with one another. Still Ash remembered her. In fact when Rogue was still at the school Ash had admired her for being able to carry herself so well when her power was so dangerous to others, like she thought her own used to be. Well, she still thought that, but that was not the point.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, voice showing her surprise. She realized she probably wasn't being very polite and smiled her first genuine smile of the day, "It's nice to see you again. A surprise I must say, but a pleseant one." Suddenly she wondered if Rogue remembered her, or if she would just think she was some weirdo. "I don't know if you remember me... I'm Ash."
So surprised by Rogue Ash completely forgot the reason she was out there. Even though that reason was standing right beside her. If she'd had a lucky bone in her body, it would have been sending alarm bells into her head to remind her that Warren was right there and that she needed to talk to him. Hoever, she had no such lucky bone.
