How could she say that? I could never... Tom's thoughts were in tatters. She couldn't really mean that. Did she want him to just stay away. "Theresa, I..."
Exodus cut him off. This was the wrong time. Tom would likely rip his throat out just to relieve some steam. But not in front of Theresa, not now. Sighing, he looked over to Exouds. "Never heard of 'em, now move along! This is a private conversation!"

Just as Tom was about to answer her, the man that they had helped the night before suddenly lowered himself from the sky. He didn't look so helpless now, as he had before and Theresa felt fear for the first time. Instinctively stepping back toward the one man she had always counted on to chase away her nightmares or check under her bed for monsters, she pushed their argument to the back of her head. There was no way she was going to let this stranger hurt Tom, not when she had just been reunited with him.
Theresa heard as Tom denied that he was the one the stranger was looking for and she took comfort knowing he was right there with her, where he belonged. Terry opened her mouth slightly, ready to literally scream if the stranger tried anything.

Exodus smiled at the man's lie and the woman's fear. He set himself down on the patio. The actions intentions were merely for his enjoyment of Fat Tom's obvious annoyance with him there.
"You have no idea who you are dealing with here, Fat Tom," Exodus said. His distance from the man was intentional as he had room to defend himself if needed. "My memory of what happened last night is lost and now I want them back. Your memories of the night will do fine. I can either get them the easy way or take them by force. The choice is yours."

Exodus was on dangerous ground. He not only interupted a very important conversation, but he threatened Thomas Cass, no, Black Tom. The only thing he could do to worsen his situation was threaten Theresa. He gripped at his cane, which of coarse never leaves his side. "Fine, you got drunk and we had to carry you home, but not before you vomitted on my shoes. And for the love of God, Jehova, Allah, Christ almighty, The name is BLACK TOM!"

Theresa stood where she was, mostly out of fear. She listened to the threat that Exodus gave, not quite understanding what he meant by taking Tom's memories of the night before. Then she nodded in agreement as Uncle Tom reiterated what had happened. However, when he proclaimed that his name was Black Tom, she turned her head to look at him. There were obviously some things they still needed to talk about.
Looking back at the stranger, she said, “Aye, what he says is true. We helped ya back ta yuir home where ya requested we leave ya.”

Exodus read the two very carefully. They were speaking the truth but he still didn't know exactly what happened. Exodus probed both of their minds more deeply. The pounding in his head worstened but it needed to happen.
As the pieces to the puzzle started to fit together, Exodus remained calm and didn't let it be known that he was in pain.
Now that it all made sense, the blackouts, Black Tom's anger and Theresa's fright. These were not his intentions but the man's egotistical thoughts that ran in his head were enough for Exodus to show him the error in his ways. Within seconds, Exodus could have him reduced to an infant's intelligence level.
"Your vague recollection of last night's events were not enough so I stripped both of your minds of the information I needed," Exodus explained. He also, in turn, learned of their discussion that Exodus so rudely interrupted.
Though not at all embarrassed of his actions of last night, he was more disappointed in himself. There was no excuse for his inability to function as the warrior that he was.

The arrogence! Interupting a conversation, planting himself on Tom's boat, then reading his mind. His grip on the cane tightened again as he held back for Theresa's sake. Unfortunately, you didn't need to be a mind reader to see the anger on his face. Exodus was probably loving it. "Since ya got what ya came for, lad, kindly piss off, will ya?"

Exodus held back his smile as Black Tom, once again, told him to get lost. The anger was evident on his face and Exodus wondered how long it would take before he snaps that cane he gripped so tightly.
It took a few seconds for Exodus to get the information out of Black Tom as to why he was holding back. It was the woman. The woman who stood in between them. And from what memories Exodus took from both of their minds, she was his soft pillow that he found on her chest the night before.
Exodus took a look down at her and back to Black Tom. The man was angry. Her emotions were tougher to read. And Exodus found a new toy.
"This woman stops you from attacking me at this moment but it it never stopped you from running out on her," Exodus said watching Black Tom very carefully. "Why the sudden care, Cassidy? You never cared to not run out on her," Exodus asked playing with the memories that he took from both individuals.

It was increasingly apparent that Exodus wasn't leaving, and he was toying with Tom. If he had more control over his anger, he would simply calm himself down, but that wasn't going to happen.
Tom slowly and non-aggressively walked toward Exodus to close the gap between them. Twenty years as a professional criminal had taught him that a lot could happen in a few yards. Now within three feet of Exodus, Tom stopped. "Now, why should I explain myself ta you?"

Theresa watched the exchange between the two men with wide eyes. She knew she had been fairly sheltered at Cassidy Keep but she didn't realize just how much so until this man began to talk about things that he shouldn't even know about. Suddenly, she understood what he had meant by “stripping their minds”. Embarrassment at having her innermost thoughts laid bare for a stranger to see gave way to anger. How dare he look inside her head! What she and Tom discussed was their own business.
Worked up into a rage now, she clenched her fists at her sides and stalked over to where the two men were standing and planted herself at Tom's side. Blue eyes flashing, she looked up at Exodus and said, “How dare ya! I came to yuir aid last night when I coulda just left ya where ya fell. I helped ya to yuir feet and practically carried you to yuir home and ya repay me by trespassing on my uncle's boat and trying t'pick a fight with him? I shoulda left ya where ya fell if this is my thanks! And from now on, stay out of my head!”
Running out of things to yell about, she stood there, slightly out of breath. That should take care of the ignorant bloke and get him to leave us alone.

Exodus listened to the woman's screaming and felt for the first time, since being transformed, remorse. He paused a second while he looked at the woman. He had no intentions on offending the woman.
"My apologies. I will do as you ask but I make no promises for our next encounter," Exodus said to the woman. He failed to filter out her name in his time inside of her thoughts.
Exodus turned his attention back to Black Tom. His demeaner changed back to the instigator as he gently lifted himself off the patio and off the yacht. Floating back towards the land, he never took his eyes off the man.
"We will finish this another time, when your female companion isn't there to fight for you," Exodus said before turning around and headed back to the Brotherhood base.

As Exodus left, Tom tried desperately to calm down. His temper had a tendancy to control him instead of the other way around. He paced around in circles for a minute, wanting to go after Exodus. But he had more important things to do right now. Panting in anger, Tom said "I need a drink" and stalked down the stairs, back to his refrigerator.

Theresa watched Exodus leave in astonishment. She had lost her temper again and for once, someone didn't argue back with her. After he left, Tom stomped back downstairs, muttering something about needing a drink. Walking over to a chair on the patio, she sat down and wondered for the first time if coming here had been the right thing to do.
She loved the man, there was no doubt about that but he had left her with no word for two years. All so he could go around the world doing whatever it was he did. Knowing that he chose to leave her like that hurt more then she was willing to admit and for the first time since seeing him again, Theresa fought back tears.
Closing her eyes and leaning her head against the back of the chair, she remembered how lonely it had been in Ireland. She'd tried to hire a housekeeper so she would have someone to talk to during the days and long nights but no one wanted to come work at the haunted old keep. Eventually Terry gave up and isolated herself even more. She would make trips into town only when she needed something and she never spoke to anyone. Her only release was using her mutant powers to fly at night. It was ironic how the one thing that made her happy was what kept people away from her.
Terry batted the tears away that had fallen down her cheeks and stood back up, walking over to the edge of the boat and looking over the bay. When she had received that letter yesterday morning, she thought her whole life was about to change. In a way, it had but not how she imagined it would. She wanted to talk to Tom, understand why but he wasn't in the mood. She probably should have just left things alone between the two men but she didn't like how Tom was being threatened.
Pulling her long hair off her neck, Theresa realized how hot it was getting outside so she made her way back downstairs. She glanced over at Tom and opened her mouth to say something, then changed her mind. Grabbing her suitcase, she pulled it into the bathroom to change out of the hot clothes she had worn from Ireland.
A few minutes later, she had changed into a pair of jean shorts and a short, red tank top, her red hair pulled back into a neat braid that went down her back. Carrying her sandals in one hand and pulling her suitcase with her other one, she walked back into the main part of the boat and sat down on one of the couches that lined the room. As she pulled the shoes on, she said, “I'm sorry about what I said before. I really didn't mean most of it, you just took me by surprise. I.... I think I'm going to go take a walk.”
She didn't look at him. He had the uncanny way of making her feel eight instead of eighteen and she supposed it was because he was essentially her parent. At least much more of one then her own had ever been.

Tom poured himself a glass of Rum and quickly gulped it down, then repeated the process. After a minute, Theresa came down and changed. She wanted to go for a walk. If she'd had anywhere else to go, he'd have wondered if she intended to come back.
He couldn't speak, paralysed by fear. As if waiting for a theatrical dramatic moment, Tom almost let her out the door. "I owe ya an explanation. Please stay on tha island long enough for me ta give ya one."

Terry was just about to stand up when he finally said something. The silence had been long and she was beginning to wonder if he even cared that she was about to leave to go wander an unknown island all on her own.
Looking over to him, she stood and walked up to him. He smelled like alcohol and she briefly wondered if the stuff really helped to calm ones nerves. Clasping her hands behind her back, she looked up at him and said, “I'm not going anywhere unless ya want me to.”
